After a series of photos revealed in early March, the Korean automaker announced more information about the EV9, including size specifications, powertrain, and features. Kia’s first 3-row electric vehicle is based on the global electric module platform E-GMP of parent company Hyundai. The EV9 will be available in three powertrain versions, new fourth-generation battery technology, and a GT-Line sports version due out later this year.

The standard version of the EV9 RWD is equipped with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, with a capacity of 215 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, with a 76.1 kWh battery pack. According to Kia’s test results, the standard EV9 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.

EV9 RWD Long Range fitted with an electric motor with a capacity of 201 hp, with a 99.8 kWh battery pack, a range of 541 km according to the WLTP test cycle when using 19-inch rims. The car accelerates from the starting position to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds.

The most advanced version EV9 AWD uses two electric motors on each axle, producing 380 horsepower, 600 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6 seconds. The Korean automaker adds the option to customers with the Boost feature to reduce the acceleration time to 100 km/h to 5.3 seconds, this feature helps increase torque to 700 Nm.

The Korean automaker did not disclose the operating range of the standard EV9 RWD Standard and the most advanced EV9 AWD. Kia revealed that these two models support 800V fast charging system, adding 238 km in about 15 minutes.

Like other models using the E-GMP platform, the EV9 comes with a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) feature, which provides AC power to electrical devices through the integrated controller ICCU, for power 3.68 kW to charge laptops or use electrical equipment while camping.

The highlight of the EV9 lies in the HDP (Highway Driving Pilot) highway driving assistance system with conditional automatic driving level 3 in selected cases, when conditions permit, according to Kia. EV9 is equipped with 15 sensors, helping HDP to scan and detect objects at 360 degrees to help prevent potential collisions. HDP is only equipped on the EV9 GT-Line version.

In addition, the Korean automaker introduced the Kia Connect Store, which allows customers to purchase digital features and services on demand. As a result, the EV9 easily receives OTA updates to upgrade.

EV9 comes with a 2nd generation digital key, using Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology, allowing users to unlock and start the engine with a smartphone. Vehicles equipped as standard with ADAS steering assist system, such as collision avoidance assist when there is a vehicle behind, blind spot collision avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, intelligent speed limiter, adaptive cruise control.

The size of the EV9 is similar to the Kia Telluride, but the wheelbase is 203 mm longer. Specifically, the car is 5,010 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, 1,755 mm high and has a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. Interior design offers 3 options of seat styles for the second row.

As planned, the Kia EV9 will make its world debut at the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show exhibition in Korea at the end of March, then introduced at the New York International Auto Show 2023 in early April.

Kia will open the first EV9 order in the domestic market from the second quarter and deliver the car by the end of this year. Prices will also be announced in the same period.
