Multiple northern dealers have reported a discontinuation of EcoSport and no longer accept orders. This is due to the new models to come in the near future.

The American car company has not made an official announcement on the aforementioned matter. However, the general situation at dealers is that the car is out of stock and does not accept additional orders. Some sales representatives of dealers think that it is likely that the company will stop selling this model. Any dealers currently having the model will try to sell them, so there are limited colors and versions available. The promotion program is no longer at 40-60 million VND as before, but only 20-30 million.

EcoSport has reduced sales in the past 1-2 years. If it stops selling, the car will follow Escape, Fiesta, and Focus – all discontinued in Vietnam. In January, this small crossover model delivered only 87 vehicles nationwide instead of over 300 vehicles as in December.

The EcoSport could be replaced by the Territory model in the third quarter. The car uses a 1.5 engine with front-wheel drive and a CVT transmission. Territory is about the size of a C-sized CUV but can be valued from 700-900 million VND.

Launched in 2014, EcoSport received great attention and monopolized the market from 2014-2017. In 2018, the throne ceded to Kona. From 2020 until now, Kona also gradually lost market share when Kia Seltos and Toyota Corolla Cross appeared. By mid-2020, EcoSport will face more difficulties when the small high-rise car market in Vietnam is increasingly diverse and competitive. In addition, EcoSport’s improvements were not well received by users. Users appreciate conveniences such as spaciousness and equipment, while the EcoSport is tight and the design was rather unsuitable for the masses.

Ford is also a brand with a narrow product range in the market. If EcoSport stops selling, Ford will only have 2 products in Vietnam, Everest and Explorer. In addition, a pickup model is a Ranger and a passenger car model is a Transit
