As predicted by industry experts in 2021, the global semiconductor chip shortage will continue to affect the production of many car brands in this 2022. Recently, Ford has announced that it is suspending production of some of its popular models due to insufficient semiconductor chips.

Specifically, Ford will suspend the production line of Bronco, Explorer, F-150, Ranger, Mustang Mach-E, Transit, and Lincoln Navigator starting next week. Consequently, many of its factory activities in 3 states in the US and Mexico will be disrupted.

“Global semiconductor chip shortages continue to affect Ford plants in North America, along with many automakers and other industries around the world.” – according to the representative of Ford. “To solve this problem, the company’s staff is looking for solutions of optimizing production by continuing to work hard and produce models that are in high demand.”

In 2021, Ford sold 1.9 million vehicles in the US market, downed by 6.8% compared to the same period in 2020. Explaining the decline in sales, Ford said the shortage of semiconductor chips as well as accessories from suppliers is the main cause of this problem.

As such, production of the aforementioned models will be suspended for about a week. It is unclear whether this pause will last further, or that many other pauses will occur in the future. This will of course affect a series of customers who have already put down deposits.
