Honda BR-V 2022 officially launched in Southeast Asia

23 Sep 2021

The new generation 7-seater Honda BR-V hybrid SUV x MPV was officially launched at an online event held in Indonesia on the afternoon of September 21, 2021.

On September 21, Honda officially unveiled the new generation BR-V in the Indonesian market. This is the first Southeast Asian market to receive this small-sized hybrid model.

As previously rumored, the new generation Honda BR-V is the commercial version of the N7X concept that was launched in Indonesia in May 2021. Compared to the N7X, BR-V 2022 has an exterior design that bears little changes.

Entering its second generation, BR-V’s new grille comes with 3 horizontal spokes, placed below the manufacturer’s logo. On top of which is a new thick chrome brace, deeply embedded into the headlight cluster.

In the Indonesian market, the model is equipped with LED headlights, integrated with an “L”-shaped LED daytime light strip (DLR). It seems that DLRs are the new characteristic in designs of future Honda models. Before the BR-V 2022, the 11th generation Honda Civic also used the same DLR.

Unlike N7X, the Honda BR-V 2022 does not have horizontal LED fog lights on the front bumper. Instead, it uses circular fog lights, located in a black cavity. Furthermore, the car also adds a large central air cavity and a sportier hood.

On the sides, a prominent ribbed line can be seen extending from the headlights to the taillights. In addition, there is a roof baga, silver trim under the door sill, and a black plastic SUV-style body brace. Particularly, the exterior rearview mirror has been moved to the door to increase visibility for occupants.

In the back, the second generation Honda BR-V is equipped with a new taillight cluster. The roof spoiler and silver undercarriage are other notable exterior features.

Not only renewed in design, but Honda BR-V 2022 also owns a strong increase in ground clearance to 220 mm (previously 210mm). This change will help the car overcome bad roads or flooded conditions more easily.

Stepping inside the Honda BR-V 2022, users are still greeted with the same 7-seat interior space. The interior of the car varies depending on the version. For the Indonesian market, Honda BR-V is divided into 5 equipment versions, including S M / T, E M / T, E CVT, Prestige CVT, and Prestige CVT with Honda Sensing.

In the standard version, the following features are available:

  • LED headlights
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Electrically adjustable rearview mirrors
  • Keyless entry
  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen
  • Connectivity support for smartphones
  • Charging port for the front seats
  • Automatic air conditioning

An extra set of features are available for E-versions:

  • LED front fog lights
  • 16-inch alloy wheels
  • Push-start button
  • Self-locking doors when the driver leaves the car
  • TFT color screen in the dashboard,
  • Phone charger
  • Air-conditioning vents for the passenger row

Next is the Prestige CVT version with additional equipment such as an automatic folding rearview mirror, integrated turn signals, 17-inch alloy wheels, armrests in the second row, and a charging port for the third row. In addition, the armrests, door panels, and dashboard of the Prestige CVT are also covered with leather.

The most advanced is the Prestige CVT version with Honda Sensing. This version is equipped with hands-free calling, a Honda LaneWatch side camera, and Honda Sensing safety technology package. This package includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure mitigation, lane keep assist, forward collision mitigation braking, and warning when the vehicle ahead changes gears.

Meanwhile, the remaining versions only have standard safety features such as 2 front airbags, side airbags, ABS, and EBD (electronic brake force distribution).

The heart of the Honda BR-V 2022 in the Indonesian market is a 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine with a capacity of 1.5L, producing a maximum capacity of 121 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of max torque at 4,300 rpm. The engine is combined with a manual or CVT transmission.

When buying the Honda BR-V 2022, Indonesian customers can choose one of five paint colors: Premium Opal White Pearl, Taffeta White, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, and Crystal Black Pearl. Currently, the price of the Honda BR-V 2022 remains unknown. It is expected that the car will begin to reach Indonesian customers in January next year.

In 2019, there were rumors that the Honda BR-V would have genuine distribution in Vietnam, but so far it proves untrue. It will not be surprising if, in the future, this model returns to Vietnam to compete with Mitsubishi Xpander and Suzuki Ertiga.
