Honda scooter sales halved compared to 2021

Due to shortage of components for producing scooters, sales of this line of vehicles fell sharply, but may recover in the near future.

Honda Vietnam has just announced the business results of June 2022 in the motorcycle segment with total sales of 147,693 vehicles, down by 5% compared to the previous month. This reduction was expected due to the shortage of available motorbikes and high prices across the entire Honda dealer network.

Compared to the same period last year, motorbike sales in June 2022 decreased slightly by 1.4%. Sales of nearly 148,000 vehicles in June also contributed to the cumulative sales of fiscal year 2023 to 487,791 vehicles, but is still down by 6.5% compared to the same period last year. Besides, Honda Vietnam’s CBU export volume in June also decreased to 15,868 units compared to the previous month’s 17,237 units.

According to the announcement of Honda Vietnam, its best-selling model in June was Honda Wave Alpha with sales of 46,551 units, accounting for 31.5% of HVN’s total motorcycle sales in June 2022. The Honda Winner X clutch model also recorded sales of 6,994 units, a sharp decrease compared to the previous month. Honda Vision has been the company’s best-selling scooter for many months without announcing specific sales.

Honda Vietnam also said that its scooter line is affected by output due to a shortage of global semiconductor chip supply. Total sales of scooters of HVN in June decreased by more than half compared to the same period last year. The good news is that from this July, some scooter models will be sufficiently supplied again thanks to the lifting of Shanghai’s Covid-19 quarantine.
