The Japanese luxury car company has just licensed the name RZ 450e in multiple markets around the world, revealing its plans to develop a completely new electric vehicle roster in the near future.

Only with the act of registering a trademark for the name RZ 450e, Lexus had aroused great curiosity. Currently, the only two Lexus models with the ‘R’ prefix are the RC Coupe and the RX crossover. Therefore, it is more likely that the new RZ 450e will be an SUV or crossover rather than a coupe as sedans and coupes are no longer popular today.

The suffix ” e ” in the name certainly represents the car’s ” electric ” element. Plus, the plan for Toyota and Lexus between now and 2025 is to electrify their product portfolio. Accordingly, from mid-2019 to 2025, the company will launch 6 fully-electric models. The first to be revealed was the Lexus UX 300e, so the RZ 450e is now the second product.

As for the UX 300e, Lexus offers a single electric motor with 201 HP and 300 Nm. Thanks to which, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds. With the addition of 54.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, the car can go as fast as 315 km.

The appearance of the RZ 450e remains unrevealed. However, the RZ 450e is likely to have similar designs with one of the six concepts released last year. Lexus has trademarked the name RZ 450e in the US, Europe and Australia. Therefore, the RZ 450e promises to be the global model of Lexus in the future.
