INFINITI speculated to withdraw from the Vietnamese market

26 Jul 2021

INFINITI automobile company has officially bid farewell to the Vietnamese market by converting the INFINITI showroom into an MG showroom.

Positioned in the luxury segment to compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or Lexus, today, the name INFINITI in Vietnam is rather unfamiliar in the minds of users, despite the brand’s 7-year-long association with the market.

The last INFINITI showroom in HCMC located in District 3 (HCMC) has been converted into MG Nam Ky Khoi Nghia showroom. This shows that INFINITI has stopped selling new cars in Vietnam. In fact, INFINITI Vietnam has stopped distributing vehicles for a long time. From the end of 2019, when INFINITI Vietnam brought back the QX50 lot, it has been over 2 years since INFINITI had sold their latest unit in the Vietnamese market.

Currently, INFINITI Vietnam has stopped selling new models and the company still maintains maintenance and repair activities at 3 service workshops in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang. Whether the INFINITI will continue to distribute luxury cars in Vietnam remains unknown.

Previously, both Nissan and INFINITI brands in Vietnam were distributed by Tan Chong. And recently, the two brands have licensed the vehicle distribution rights to Vietnam Automobile Industry Development Company Limited (VAD). Accordingly, VAD became the new distributor of Nissan Vietnam from the beginning of October 2020. However, VAD does not accept the distribution of the INFINITI in Vietnam. Having lost the distribution rights, Tan Chong could not continue to bring new INFINITI cars for over a year and a half.

There is yet to  be a confirmation that INFINITI will withdraw from the Vietnamese market. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that INFINITI will be received and distributed by large distributors in Vietnam. Currently, Tan Chong is an importer and distributor of MG cars in Vietnam. Its goal is to open up to 20 dealers nationwide after a year of launch. Therefore, Tan Chong took back the INFINITI car showroom in Ho Chi Minh City to open the MG showroom.

Previously, INFINITI Vietnam’s product range focused on luxury SUVs including many different lines such as QX60, QX70 and QX80 in the small, mid-size and large luxury SUV segments. In the Vietnamese market, Nissan’s INFINITI is still quite foreign to many Vietnamese. Therefore, it is difficult for INFINITI’s models to compete fairly with rival models in the segment.
