Mercedes-Benz’s series of ‘budget friendly’ electric cars to launch in Vietnam

16 May 2023

Mercedes-Benz’s three electric models EQB, EQE and EQS are expected to be launched to Vietnamese customers in the third quarter of 2023, with prices starting from 2.4 billion VND.

Along with the launch of the new Mercedes GLC 2023, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam continues to reveal information about 3 lines of small luxury SUV EQB, mid-size luxury SUV EQE and large luxury SUV EQS expected to be brought to Vietnam, joining the luxury electric car segment.

Accordingly, Mercedes-Benz EQB is a small 7-seater luxury model with a series of outstanding standard equipment, with a range of up to 473km per single charge. The vehicle will be delivered to customers in July 2023 with an expected price of 2.4 billion VND.

In the international market, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is available in 2 variants of EQB 300 and EQB 350, sharing the same chassis as the GLB 2023, with 2 electric motors driving 4 wheels.

In terms of exterior, the EQB’s design is not too aggressive but minimalist, the shape of the car is long and superficial, creating a sense of certainty. The car has multi-spoke wheels with unsual-looking 2 tone and no exhaust. The front and rear lights are adjacent to each other, occupying most of the car’s width, with beautifully and luxuriously winding design.

The interior breaks the mold in dashboard design but is still generally boring. The first and second rows are comfortable, but the 3rd row is only suitable for children. The luggage compartment volume of the EQB when folding both rear seats is 1710 liters, which is quite spacious.

Overall, this is a pure SUV for mobility purposes instead of emphasizing a sporty driving experience behind the wheel.

  • Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that the EQE SUV is one of the most spacious 5-seater models in this segment and has some segment-leading equipment. The EQE has an active range of up to 550km per only one charge.

Earlier in October 2022, the Mercedes-Benz EQE was officially introduced in five variants, including the rear-wheel-drive EQE 350+, QE 350 4Matic, EQE 500 4Matic, EQE 43 AMG and EQE 53 AMG. All variants use the same 90.6 kWh battery pack as sedan version.

Similar to the EQS, the Mercedes-Benz EQE is equipped with an MBUX Hyperscreen. This high-resolution display cluster is spread across the dashboard. At either end of the screen are turbine-inspired air conditioning vents. Like other EQ models, the cabin of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV has an interior backlighting system with various color options.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQE is also equipped with modern and traditional materials including wood and aluminum. Users can choose from Balao Brown, Biscay Blue/Black and Neva Grey, all of which are warm and cool tones for a spacious, airy feel.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is built on the EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform. It is an EV platform built specifically for the all-electric EQE, EQS, and EQS SUVs.

  • Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV

This is the SUV version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS that represents the pinnacle of technology of the EQ brand. This model has an active range of 660km per only one charge.

Previously, the Mercedes-Benz EQS made its international debut in April 2022 with price starting at $105.550.

The EQS is said to have a rounded design, which is too different from the S-Class, while the EQS SUV has a familiar styling although it still has nothing in common with the GLS. There are many similarities between the EQS and EQS SUV in terms of the exterior, such as the front with the lights connected to the grille or the extended taillights.

The SUV EQS’s interior is like “taking almost” from the EQS, but with additional rear seats. In the most premium version, the car has 3 front screens called Hyperscreen extending to the passenger seat, with a total size of 56 inches, combined with 2 rear head pillow screens. The steering wheel is more familiar, like the S-Class.

Similar to the EQS, the SUV EQS is also divided into EQS 450+ and EQS 580 versions with 335 hp and 536 hp respectively. The maximum travel distance is about 600 km after a full charge, much lower than the sedan EQS. Fast charging technology allows charging to 80% in 31 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz’s luxury electric SUV is nearly the same size as VinFast VF 9, but in terms of price, the EQS SUV will cost several times more than the Vietnamese model.
