MPV segment in 2022: Mitsubishi Xpander remains in top spot

16 Jan 2023

Selling nearly 22,000 vehicles in 2022, Mitsubishi Xpander took the first position in the MPV segment for the 4th consecutive year.

Mitsubishi Xpander

For the 3rd consecutive year since its launch in Vietnam, Mitsubishi Xpander has always held its top position in the MPV segment, officially bringing down the Toyota Innova after a long time of leading in this segment.

Accumulating in 2022, there were 21,983 Xpander vehicles delivered to customers, an increase of more than 8,000 units compared to the same period last year.

About achieving this success, quickly grasping the trend of preference for low-cost MPVs, switching to domestic assembly to ensure abundant supply allows Xpander to hold its position in the Vietnamese market.

In addition, owning an attractive and somewhat youthful exterior compared to other MPV models, spacious interior, and durable engine are advantages in the Vietnam market.

In addition, Xpander comes with a soft selling price (ranging from 555 to 688 million VND), a range of 4 versions for customers to choose from, and a series of attractive promotions helps increase sales.

Toyota Veloz Cross bản lắp ráp

Toyota Veloz Cross is right behind Xpander with sales of 14,101 units, averaging 1,500 units sold per month. One of the reasons why Veloz Cross has achieved good sales recently is the stability of supply.

The prosperity of the Veloz Cross is considered as a positive signal for Toyota in the MPV segment. Since Innova lost the top spot of this segment to Xpander, Toyota’s market share in this segment has decreased significantly.

Aside from Xpander, the Toyota Veloz Cross and Kia Carnival currently have the next largest market share in this segment, with cumulative sales of 9,320 units. The huge attraction of KIA Carnival 2022 is evident, despite the new generation having a sharp increase.

The next position belongs to Suzuki XL7 with sales of 6,526 units in 2022, increased by 1,351 units compared to the same period last year. Already facing many difficulties in competing against Mitsubishi Xpander & Toyota Veloz Cross in addition to Suzuki XL7 having two dominating rookies, 2023 will be a difficult year for XL7.

Aside from the race of Veloz and Xpander, the next places belong to, Toyota Avanza with 3592 units, Toyota Innova with 3,273 units, Suzuki Ertiga with 879 units, Hyundai Stargazer with 1,121 units, and Kia Carens with 1,085 units.
