The 6th generation CR-V is expected to be on the market by the end of 2023, continuing to be assembled domestically.

Information from Honda dealers said that CR-V is Honda’s new “closer” model for 2023 in Vietnam. Before that, the company will in turn launch the BR-V, a small 7-seat MPV model and an upgraded City sedan in the middle of this year.

The new generation Honda CR-V has just launched in Southeast Asia through the ongoing Bangkok Motor Show 2023 in Thailand. Dealers provided no information on whether the company will distribute the 5-seat configuration or not. The current CR-V only has a choice of 7 seats (5+2 form).

As there is still over half a year before sales open, the engine of the new generation Honda CR-V remains undisclosed. In Thailand, the car offers two engine options, including a turbocharged 1.5 petrol engine and an e:HEV 2.0 hybrid.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 190 hp and 243 Nm of torque. The current version has the same engine, producing 188 horsepower and torque of 240 Nm. Thus, the performance of the engine on the new version is almost unchanged. The gearbox is still CVT, with the option of two- or four-wheel drive.

The petrol 2.0 hybrid version includes a 2.0 gasoline engine combined with two electric motors, with a lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 207 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque. e-CVT gearbox is available.

In Vietnam, Honda currently sells CR-V with only one 1.5-liter engine. Many customers are waiting for the 2.0 hybrid version. But according to experts, if this engine is used, it is difficult for the Japanese automaker to price the car as it is today. Then, the high price will be a big barrier against sales.

The new CR-V completely changes the interior and exterior design. There is less curved, the car is more compact and squarer. LED headlights and taillights have all been redesigned. The cockpit is like the new generation Civic with a compact and simple style thanks to the dashboard being pushed forward, helping to increase space for passengers.

Honda CR-V competes in the segment with many Japanese, Korean, and American rivals such as Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage… After the first 2 months of 2023, CR-V sold 705 cars, ranked third in the segment after Mazda CX-5 (1,433 vehicles) and Ford Territory (1,079 vehicles).
