Suzuki has set the launch date of the Ertiga hybrid on September 28. The brand’s dealers expect price for the MT version to be 539 million, version AT 589 million, and Sport at 679 million VND

Thus, compared to the old Ertiga, the MT and AT versions are increased by 39 million and 20 million, respectively. Particularly, Sport version is upgraded to a high-end version, adding cruise control and other features.

The biggest change on the Ertiga 2022 is that the old engine is now equipped with an ISG with energy provided by a small 12 V lithium-ion battery located in the middle of the vehicle. The motor of the ISG system has a belt directly attached to the engine, helping to support the vehicle when accelerating, allowing the engine to quickly and smoothly start and temporarily stop to save fuel. The brake on the car is also responsible for regenerative energy and storing it in the battery pack.

According to data from the Vietnam Ministry of Registry, the average fuel consumption of the Suzuki Ertiga hybrid MT per 100 km on urban, long, and mixed roads are 5.95 liters, 5.05 liters, and 5.38 liters, respectively. Compared to the current Ertiga versions, fuel efficiency is higher. With automatic transmission AT, the consumption reduction in turn is 1.75 liters; 0.11 liters and 0.72 liters. This is the leading fuel economy in the segment.

Because of the mild hybrid configuration, Ertiga 2022 is not capable of independent operation using only electric power. However, it is the first in its segment with this engine configuration.

In addition to engine changes, the Ertiga 2022 changes slightly in shape thanks to the external bodykit. Cruise control feature (automatic throttle) makes its first appearance on this MPV line of Suzuki. XL7, Suzuki’s best-selling model, more expensive than the Ertiga, does not currently have this equipment.

The figure of VND 679 million of Ertiga Sport is even more expensive than some XL7 versions (VND 600-640 million), a model that is positioned more advanced by the company than Ertiga. The remaining two versions of Ertiga are still the lowest in the price segment.

Ertiga competes with rivals such as Mitsubishi Xpander (VND 555-688 million), Toyota Avanza Premio (VND 558-598 million), and Veloz Cross (VND 658-698 million). With a somewhat conservative design and little equipment, the Ertiga did not make a big impression in the segment when it came to Vietnam from 2019 (current version).

Until the Suzuki XL7 appeared, the Japanese company valued it only 30 million more than the Ertiga. This makes the demand for a 7-seater Suzuki-branded car switch almost entirely to XL7 because the design and equipment are all more attractive than the Ertiga. Sales of Ertiga gradually decreased and was the name that sold the fewest cars in the segment despite being the cheapest.

In the small MPV segment in Vietnam, Mitsubishi Xpander is the name that currently captures the majority market share. Mitsubishi’s model has a good balance of design, comfort, and price. Along with youthful design, Xpander has become the most popular model in the segment for the past 3 years. After 8 months of 2022, Xpander sold 13,697 units, more than double its competitor, Toyota Veloz (7,087 cars).

The XL7, Suzuki’s best-selling model, ranks third in its segment in terms of sales. Suzuki XL7 delivers over 4,500 cars to Vietnamese customers after the first 8 months of 2022. Ertiga is in the last position, selling only 626 cars, or about 78 cars per month on average.
