The first public university in Hanoi to install an electric car charging station

21 Nov 2022

University of Transport Technology has just become the first public higher education institution in the capital to install an electric car charging station to join the electrification trend in mobility.

Joining the green traffic trend

On November 14, VinFast announced their cooperation program and established a VinFast electric car charging station at the University of Transport Technology (54 Trieu Khuc Street, Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi).

This charging station is planned to include 5 charging posts at 30 kW and 5 charging posts at 11 kW, designed and constructed according to European standards ISO-15118 and IEC 61851, ensuring the safety of power and explosion prevention, anti-electric leakage, and waterproof. In the first phase, VinFast will put into operation 1 charging post of each capacity. The subsequent posts will be put into use depending on the actual needs of users.

According to Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung – Vice President of University of Transport Technology, the presence of green traffic on campus is meaningful in expanding EV infrastructure in the capital.

“This is a very good opportunity for the faculty, staff, and students at the university to access the world’s advanced technological facilities on the spot, thereby promoting research activities, applying environmentally friendly technology to traffic practice in Vietnam”, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.

Around the world, electric vehicle charging stations have been present on universities and college campuses for a while. In the US, ChargePoint (the world’s largest network of charging stations with more than 18,500 charging points) deployed its first charging station at Pasadena City College (California) from the end of 2010. As of March 2022, the number of ChargePoint’s own charging ports at American universities has reached over 1,100.

According to experts, there are at least two reasons why installing electric car charging stations on university and college campuses is a great idea.

First, higher education institutions are not only teaching places but also cultural and intellectual centers of an entire community. Therefore, this is the perfect choice for progressive public utilities such as electric vehicle charging stations. The beneficiaries are not only members of the school but also neighboring residents, making this place a connection point for the whole community. Thanks to that, the image of the school becomes more and more friendly, its brand is spread more widely.

Second, educational institutions are the place where the nation’s talents gather. The presence of green transport technologies not only sends an environmental-friendly message, but also contributes to education, raises awareness, and helps to shape responsible generations for the future.

Pioneering commitment for the environment

In Vietnam, the University of Transport Technology is one of the first educational institutions with the presence of an electric car charging station. According to traffic and technology experts, the pioneering provision of these facilities demonstrates the university’s keen vision and open-mindedness in catching up with the electrification trend in mobility in Vietnam, making the school a model of quickly adapting and proactively embracing the world’s advanced technologies.

This step also affirms the university’s position as one of the leading higher education institutions in the industry, a leading place in scientific research and development of the transportation industry.

Meanwhile, with VinFast, the cooperation with the University of Transport Technology is a new step in the strategy of expanding the network of charging stations across the country in order to create a comprehensive electric vehicle support ecosystem, bringing about an increasingly flexible, convenient and accessible battery charging experience for all electric car customers.

Before the rise of electric vehicles, many organizations and businesses have actively cooperated with Vietnamese car companies to provide charging station facilities, including large units in the petroleum industry such as PVOil, Petrolimex … This cooperation shows the growing environmental responsibility of organizations and businesses to join hands to reduce emissions in the transportation sector, creating a green and sustainable future.

This is also a positive move, contributing to the realization of the roadmap to completely stop the circulation of internal combustion engine vehicles from 2050 set out by the Government in the Action Program on Green Energy Transformation, reducing gas emissions and methane of the Transportation sector.
