Toyota Vietnam recalled 3,280 Rush and Avanza vehicles due to fuel pump error

06 May 2021

The Vietnam Registry has just published information on the program to recall the high ground clearance Avanza and Rush models to inspect and replace fuel pumps imported and distributed by Toyota Vietnam.

This recall affected 3,280 vehicles, with production time from July 17, 2018 to June 28, 2019. According to Toyota, affected vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure pump, placed in the fuel tank, which supplies fuel for the fuel injection system. These pumps include impellers that can be manufactured with low density material.

If these impellers have low surface hardness or are subjected to chemical drying for a long time during the manufacturing process, cracking of the upper surface of the impeller may result. This results in the impeller becoming more fuel permeable and the impeller can be deformed. In some cases, the impeller can be so deformed that touching the pump body, which makes the pump cannot not work.

Failure of the fuel pump due to the above causes can lead to faulty lights and warning messages on the dashboard, vibration, failure of the engine, or stalling of the vehicle while running. at low speed.

However, in some special cases, the vehicle can also stall while running at high speed, increasing the risk of a collision. For the benefit and safety of themselves and their accompanying passengers, the Vietnam Register recommends that customers promptly bring their cars to Toyota dealers nationwide for inspection and replacement of new fuel pumps.

The recalling program started on May 4, 2021, and is expected to end on May 4, 2024. It takes about 1.8 to 2.2 hours for each vehicle to check and replace a defective part.
