After more than a year of discontinuing sales since its engines didn’t meet Euro 5 emission standards, Toyota Vietnam will have the Wigo returned, competing in the urban A-sized segment. Salespeople of many Toyota dealers inform that Toyota Wigo 2023 will be launched in the last week of May, with two versions for sale, including manual and automatic.

Wigo is about to be sold in Vietnam as the new generation launched in neighboring Indonesia last February. The vehicle is developed on the DNGA-A chassis platform of Daihatsu (Toyota subsidiary) for small cars, with the price is among the easiest accessible in the market.

According to dealers, the Toyota Wigo 2023 has comprehensive change in the overall exterior and interior appearance. Its headlights are upgraded to LED type for both versions. The seats inside remain upholstered in felt, while high-end versions of Hyundai i10 and Kia Morning are covered in leather.

Toyota wants Wigo to compete with rivals in terms of safety for its comeback. The blind spot warning feature, rear cross-traffic warning will be available on the new Wigo and are unique features in this segment. The car is also equipped with an electronic stability system, hill start assist.

In terms of engines, Toyota’s A-size hatchback model still offers two configurations, including a 5-speed manual and automatic. However, the automatic version uses the same D-CVT type as Veloz, Avanza instead of the type with level 4 in the old version. Wigo’s engine is 1,2 liters type, has power of 83 hp and torque of 108 Nm.

The new Toyota Wigo will have the most amount of safety technology in the segment when the two Korean rivals have not yet upgraded products. The Hyundai i10 is expected to have a new version in the third quarter, while the Kia Morning is in the last quarter of 2023.

The official price of Wigo is not yet revealed, but dealers said “it will increase slightly” compared to the old version. Some dealers offered an expected price of about 370 million for the manual version and 420 million for the automatic version. The current version is priced at 352 million VND and 385 million VND, respectively. Rival Hyundai i10 costs 360-455 million, Kia Morning costs 389-454 million.
