Vietnamese consumers buy nearly 6 new motorbikes every minute

The total number of motorcycles sold in 2022 reached over 3 million units, an increase of more than 120% compared to 2021.

According to sales report of VAMM, total sales in 2022 are 3,003,160 units, up by 120.49% over the previous year. On average, 5.8 new motorbikes are sold every minute in 2022. This figure shows that motorcycles are still the dominant vehicle in Vietnam and is nearly 6 times larger than the auto market.

For each quarter in 2022 alone, the third quarter has the highest growth rate of 207.65% over the same period in 2021 with sales of 762,154 new motorcycles. Next came the fourth quarter with an increase of nearly 109.98%, reaching 831,999 vehicles. The remaining two quarters only grew at a single-digit rate of 7.43% in the first quarter and 1.79% in the second quarter, respectively, with sales of 753,571 and 655,433 units.

The sales report of VAMM does not list the details of each member, except for Honda. VAMM consists of 5 members including Honda, Yamaha, Piaggio, Suzuki, and SYM. In addition, the motorcycle market also has brands other than VAMM such as Kymco, BMW Motorrad, Ducati, Triumph, Kawasaki, Royal Enfield, and Harley-Davidson.
