VinFast Fadil sales outsells i10 and Morning combined

20 Jun 2022

With over 1,900 vehicles sold in May, Fadil’s 2022 cumulative sales topped the market, even higher than the two following competitors combined.

In May, Hyundai i10 sold 999 cars, while Morning sold 601 cars. Morning has stable sales over the months with an average of 500-600 cars, but the i10 has decreased by 200 cars compared to April. According to dealers, weak supply causes sales to decrease, while the demand for the model is in fact higher.

In May, Fadil outperformed its competitors thanks to better supply, still applying a promotional program, which is combined with a reduction in registration fees for locally assembled cars.

The large gap between Fadil’s sales and competitors in May further the accumulation difference. With more than 8,200 units, Fadil is still higher than the sum of i10 (~ 5,200 units) and Morning (~ 2,800 units).

In the bottom group, Honda Brio registered only 346 cars sold in May. This model has been on the Vietnamese market for 5 years but has not had a new version. Its Japanese compatriot – Toyota Wigo – has been temporarily stopped selling for about two months. These are also two imported models in the segment. Brio is imported from Thailand, while Wigo is from Indonesia.

The A-segment is getting less and less cars when Wigo has no plans to return or discontinued. Meanwhile, Fadil will also stop selling by the end of this year. On the other hand, Brio has not been updated to a new generation after nearly 5 years. Previously, the market had Suzuki Celerio, but it was discontinued long ago.

The reduced price of B-class models makes the gap between the two segments not overly different. Therefore, A-segment cars gradually lose their position. A class-A model registered with a Hanoi license plate costs from 420-500 million VND, while a B-class model is about 50-100 million higher, but with better performance and equipment.
