07 Sep 2021

Volkswagen ID. Life is expected to have a starting price of only 20,000 Euro (about 540 million VND) when available on markets.

Participating in the 2021 Munich Motor Show, Volkswagen has officially launched a completely new concept car named ‘ID. Life’. According to Volkswagen, ID. Life is a low-cost fully electric urban car.

Unlike previous electric models of the ID series, ID. Life dons a more minimalist design. Outside, this model is painted in two colors with contrasting black roof and columns. In particular, the roof of the car can be removed to turn Volkswagen ID. Life into a convertible.

Moreover, the body is also made from sustainable materials, namely wood chips. Even the woodchip hardener is of vegetable origin. Meanwhile, the roof and hood cover is made entirely of recycled PET bottles. The car’s tires are manufactured from a mixture of vegetable oil, natural rubber, and rice husk.

Similar to the exterior, the interior of the Volkswagen ID. Life also features sustainable materials. Specifically, the lower part of the dashboard and the area around the rear seats are made from real wood. Next, the seat and door surfaces are covered with sustainably manufactured ArtVelours Eco microfiber material.

More than just a means of transportation, Volkswagen ID. Life can also be turned into a movie theater or mini-game station. To do this, the German brand has equipped the car with game consoles and projectors. When users watch movies, the brake and accelerator pedal will act as multimedia control “buttons” and help ensure safety. There are 230 V and 16 amp power sockets, which are input sockets for computers.

Similar to current concept cars, Volkswagen ID. Life comes with flexibly adjustable seats. Both the front and rear seats are fully foldable, creating a bed or luggage compartment with a length of up to 2 meters.

Other notable equipment of this concept car is a digital camera instead of a rearview mirror and a semicircular steering wheel like a Tesla car. In addition, the car does not have an infotainment screen as users can place a smartphone or tablet on the dashboard instead.

Developed on the basis of the front-wheel-drive MEB platform, Volkswagen ID. Life uses a powerful 234 hp electric motor and a 57 kWh battery pack. Thanks to which, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and run 400 km after fully charging the battery.

Volkswagen ID. Life is yet to receive official announcements. However, Volkswagen aims to sell this model to the market with a starting price of only 20,000 Euro (about 540 million VND).
