The automobile brand about to enter the Southeast Asian market (and possibly even Vietnam) is Weltmeister of Chinese automaker WM Motor.

WM Motor is a Chinese company that is quite unfamiliar to Southeast Asian consumers. However, the automaker is currently planning to enter the market, specifically Indonesia next year.

According to plans, WM Motor will bring its Weltmeister automobile brand to the Indonesian market in 2022. PT WM Motor Asia Pacific will be the importer and distributor of Weltmeister models in this market.

The first Weltmeister model soon to launch in Indonesia will be an electric SUV called W5 or EX5. In addition, Weltmeister will also be the first electric car brand to enter the Indonesian market.

According to WM Motor, this 5-seater SUV was chosen to launch in the Indonesian market due to consumer preferences and the country’s terrain. Furthermore, WM Motor also believes that the versatility and comfort of the Weltmeister EX5 will be suitable for the chosen market.

First introduced at the Beijing Motor Show 2018, the Weltmeister EX5 belongs to the C-class SUV segment. The car has a length of 4,585 mm, 1,835 mm in width, a height of 1,672 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,703 mm.

In the Indonesian market, Weltmeister EX5 will be equipped with an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 218 horsepower and 315Nm in torque. For the standard version, Weltmeister EX5 for Indonesia will use a 49 kWh battery pack. This allows the car to travel 300km for every full charge.

Other equipment includes a level 2 semi-auto driving system. To support this system, the car comes with a high-resolution front camera, 3 mid-range radars, and a 360-degree camera.

Meanwhile, in the home market of China, Weltmeister EX5 has 3 versions. In particular, the first version uses an electric motor and the same 49 kWh battery. The second version is the EX5 400 with a 52.5 kWh battery pack, giving a range of 400 km. The third is the EX5 500 version with a 56.9 kWh battery pack and a range of 460 km. In addition, there is also has a Pro version, equipped with a sportier body kit package and a 59.5 kWh battery pack.

Currently, the price of Weltmeister EX5 in the Indonesian market has not been announced. Meanwhile, in China, this electric SUV starts at 149,800 yuan (about 529 million VND).

In addition to Indonesia, the distributor PT WM Motor Asia Pacific is also present in the Philippines market. In the near future, the company plans to enter other markets such as Vietnam, New Caledonia, and Polynesia in France. Therefore, it is possible in the near future that Weltmeister cars are also sold in the Vietnamese market, competing with VinFast.
