According to Nikkei Asia, Toyota will suspend production at three assembly plants located in Thailand due to a shortage of parts and accessories needed for assembly. It is expected that the pause will last from now until the end of July 28, 2021. However, the company also said that it will have to further evaluate the situation to see if it should resume operations on July 29. The main cause of this event was that a factory supplying wires needed to connect electronic components in Thailand was temporarily closed due to the new Covid-19 epidemic.

This is the second time Toyota has had to temporarily close production plants in Thailand because of the epidemic with the first time being in March last year. The production efficiency of these factories is about 760,000 vehicles per year, but in 2020, only 440,000 Toyota vehicles will be produced in the land of the Golden Temple. Of which, half are sold in Thailand and the other half is exported to other countries, including Vietnam.

Currently, there are 4 lines of Toyota cars being imported CBU from Thailand to Vietnam for distribution, including Toyota Camry, Hilux, Yaris, and Corolla Cross. In particular, Toyota Corolla Cross is a model that many Vietnamese customers are interested in but has continuously encountered a “scarce” phenomenon since its launch last year.

Earlier in June, referencing the situation at some dealers, sales consultants said that if you want to order Toyota Corolla Cross, users will have to spend another 10-20 million VND if they want to receive the car soon (wait 1 hour). month). In case customers do not want to spend more money, customers who order will have to wait until August or October (depending on where) to receive the car. However, with Toyota having to suspend operations at 3 assembly plants in Thailand, it is expected that the time Vietnamese customers wait to receive the Corolla Cross will continue to be prolonged in the near future.
