At the webinar on “Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure”, a representative of VinFast proposed policies favouring businesses participating in the domestic electric vehicle manufacturing industry.
This morning, September 3, 2021, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and the Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (VAMM) cooperated with Traffic Newspaper to organize the Seminar “Infrastructures for electronic vehicles in Vietnam” in the form of a 3D Virtual Event.
The conference was held to create an opportunity for government agencies and businesses to discuss the development of environmentally friendly vehicles and electric vehicles; review existing regulations and policies; discuss plans, management orientations; develop sets of standards and regulations to promote the research and promulgation of synchronous and appropriate legal regulations, contributing to the development of the new vehicle type.
Attending the seminar were 130 leaders and experts from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. In addition, there are research institutes, experts from leading universities in Vietnam, and 22 automobile and motorbike manufacturing enterprises operating in Vietnam such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Honda, THACO, VinFast…
At the webinar, Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Duong – Director of VinFast Battery Station Development Center – stated that Vietnam has the golden opportunities for the development of electric vehicles. This includes having clean electricity from wind power, solar power, and the starting point of the electric vehicle industry in Vietnam proves quite similar to other countries in the region. In addition, the US-China trade war has created a wave of investment shifting from China to Vietnam and its neighbors.
However, the aforementioned factors does not necessarily result in the speedy development of electric vehicles in Vietnam. According to Ms. Duong, there are still needs for policies from the management agencies, so that these vehicles can be standardized. Specifically:
Also within the framework of the seminar, Ms. Duong announced the plan to develop VinFast’s charging technology and charging stations with the expected use of Autocharge technology (in 2021) and Plug & Charge technology (from the third quarter of 2022) according to the international ISO-15118 standard. This provides an easy and simple charging experience with the most convenient and secure payment method for customers. VinFast’s charging ports all meet European standards CCS2 with DC port and Type 2 with AC port.
According to Ms. Duong, the advantages of VinFast charging stations in the future will include a nationwide network of charging stations; online payment with fees based on the amount of power consumed after each charge; delivery history and other information included in the phone app.
Assessing the Vietnamese market, experts state that the short-term prospects for electric vehicle sales are quite magnificent. It can be seen that in the first quarter of 2021 alone, global electric car sales increased by 140% compared to the same period in 2020. Besides, electric car sales in the US had more than doubled compared to the same period last year. In Vietnam, VinFast is also in the final preparations for the release of VF e34. These will probably be the first developments of the electric car market in Vietnam.
