All-new Honda ZR-V launches soon, a new rival of Toyota Raize

05 Sep 2021

Honda ZR-V will be equipped with a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged VTEC engine – similar to the Honda City RS in the Thai market. In addition, the compact crossover can also be offered with a hybrid powertrain.

Honda ZR-V is expected to launch in Malaysia next June. In terms of size, the ZR-V competes with the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky models. However, in Malaysia, Perodua redesigned the Raize/Rocky into the Perodua Ativa, so the Ativa is the direct rival of the ZR-V in the country.

According to some latest reports, Honda ZR-V will be built on the basis of the 4th generation Honda Jazz. Its dimensions stand at 4,100 x 1,695 x 1,600 mm. As such, the ZR-V is about the same size as the Raize and Ativa, but significantly smaller than the Honda HR-V (shorter and narrower, the same height).

In terms of transmission, Honda ZR-V will use the same 1.0L 3-cylinder VTEC turbocharged engine as its brother Honda City RS in Thailand. This machine produces 122 horsepower and maximum torque of 173 Nm, along with an exclusive CVT gearbox.

Rumors suggest that Honda will offer both i-MMD hybrid powertrain (2 electric motors) like the City RS. This option will help the ZR-V compete with the upcoming hybrid engines on the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky. Hybrid variants of the Raize and Rocky are expected to launch in Japan this October or November.
