The winning models in each segment were named at the Car Awards 2022 Ceremony on the evening of December 22 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Car Awards 2022 honors 7 models with the highest scores in 7 segments, in addition to the model that won the Grand Award over the general market.
B-size crossover – Honda HR-VA
Honda HR-V overcame two strong candidates, including Volkswagen T-Cross and Hyundai Creta to win the title of Car of the Year in the B-size Crossover segment 2022. Honda’s model reached 285.3 points, 15 points higher than second place, T-Cross (269.7 points). This is the largest score difference in each category of the Car Awards 2022.
In the new generation, the HR-V has a more modern and youthful design than the previous generation. The most advanced version of this model has a 1.5 turbo engine like on the Civic, CR-V. Recently, the car has a G version for nearly 700 million, which is a cheap option for a B-sized crossover.
C-size sedan – Honda Civic
C-size sedan is the most competitive segment of the market in 2022 when most models offer new versions or new generations. Therefore, the distances between the models according to the judges’ assessment are not radically different. Victory belongs to Honda Civic with 304.7 points, 6.8 points higher than Hyundai Elantra.
The Civic balances design, comfort, and performance. In this generation, the design is no longer as unruly as before, but has changed to a gentle, elegant direction. Performance is still the strong point of Civic through generations.
C-size crossover – Hyundai Tucson
With only 0.9 points higher, Hyundai Tucson (307.2 points) overcame fellow competitor Kia Sportage (306.3 points) to take the throne at the Car Awards.
Tucson is the highest rated this year by changes in exterior, interior, and content of technology, equipment, and facilities.
SUV/Crosover size D – Ford Everest
Ford’s SUV won 316.9 points from the judges, surpassing the other two candidates, VinFast VF8 with 306.3 points and Mazda CX-8, 292.3 points.
Ford Everest’s new design language with masculine, solid American style continues to create great attraction for customers in Vietnam. Ford launched many versions for Everest, spanning many different price ranges with 2 options of single turbocharger and 2.0 twin turbocharger, the most powerful in the segment.
Small-sized mass MPV – Mitsubishi Xpander
The small-sized MPV category has 7 nominations, but Xpander shows its superiority when receiving 282.2 points from the Jury, the Korean-made Kia Carens comes in second with 269.8 points.
The upgrade of Xpander launched in June with a series of upgrades in equipment and appearance. The design of the Japanese MPV model, which was youthful in the old version, is now made more youthful. Xpander’s interior has a new, compact, and modern design, eliminating the stereotype of a family car, combined with a regular price service in favor of practicality.
Small high-rise luxury car – Volvo XC60 Recharge
Volvo XC60 Recharge, a Swedish brand car with 335.8 points from the Expert Council, overcame German rival Porsche Macan to win Car of the five small high-rise luxury segments by a thin margin: 1.7 points.
This model comes with Swedish with strong exterior design and humble interior. After many years of presence in Vietnam, the calm Nordic style in Volvo car shape gradually becomes more eye-catching and pleasing to customers.
Large high-rise luxury – Range Rover
The LX 600 and Range Rover were the two most anticipated cars. The British model received 351.1 points from the jury. Second place belongs to the model that is sold out at dealers, Lexus LX 600, with 343.5 points.
Range Rover is highly appreciated for its combination of many advantages, from design, equipment, and engine performance. On Land Rover’s flagship SUV, the list of amenities can be overwhelming. Everything on the car is almost electric, touchscreens, and automatic. Made for the elite, Range Rover has the highest price of nearly 24 billion VND, the most expensive in the segment.
Winner of the general market
Ford Everest and Volvo XC60 Recharge together won the same number of votes from the jury for the final position of Car of the Year in the whole market. Based on the criteria of Car of the Year, including ability to respond to worldwide industry trends, competitiveness in the segment, accessibility of customers…, judges have awarded the top prize for the XC60 Recharge. With plug-in hybrid engine technology (both petrol and electric), the XC60 represents the development trend of the world auto industry.
