The special limited edition of 1,923 units of the classic style motorcycle model R18 imported from Germany is expected to be sold in Vietnam by the end of 2023.

BMW Motorrad dealers under Truong Hai (Thaco) said that the R18 motorcycle model commemorating the 100th anniversary of the brand’s establishment will be sold in Vietnam in special limited quantities. Along with the R nineT, the German motorcycle company produced a commemorative edition of the R18 model with nostalgic features in its appearance.

In 1923, BMW Motorrad’s first commercial vehicle, the R32, rolled off the factory line in Germany. To mark 100 years in the motorbike industry, BMW created the R18 anniversary edition based on the standard version.

The anniversary edition of the R18 has shiny chrome plates on the side of the fuel tank, rear fender, mirrors, brake levers, and handlebar humps. The fuel tank has a 100th anniversary edition badge and production serial number. The first car was launched in 1932 and BMW produced 1,932 units of the R18 special edition.

The seat of the special edition BMW R18 is covered in red leather with white stitching. The double exhaust pipes are elongated instead of muscular like on the regular version. At the end of the exhaust pipe is a steel plate engraved with the BMW logo.

In addition to the above details, the equipment of the BMW R18 is the same as the regular version. The engine is still a symmetrical Boxer type, electronic fuel injection, air and liquid cooling, producing a power of 91 hp, maximum torque of 158 Nm. BMW said the R18 design keeps traction above 150 Nm in the 2,000-4,000-rpm range.

The vehicle’s gearbox is 6-speed, driven by a driveshaft from the engine to the rear wheel. The vehicle offers three driving modes: Rain (wet road), Roll (road), Rock (terrain). The top speed of the bike reaches 178 km/h.

The bike is equipped with driving assistance technologies such as cruise control, automatic balance, ABS, hill start assist, anti-slip clutch system, smart engine braking, emergency brake support. It has a reverse mode to support the driver because the vehicle weight is quite large, 345 kg.

The official price for the BMW R18 100th has not been confirmed yet. In Vietnam, the standard version of the R18 is priced at 959 million VND.
