At the moment, Honda is the first Japanese motorcycle brand to stop exporting products to the Russian market following warfare developments in Ukraine.

A week after the Russia-Ukraine war broke out, many forms of sanctions against Russia have been applied by many organizations, businesses and countries. Most recently, Honda has just announced that it will suspend the shipment of large displacement motorcycles to the Russian market.

Honda spokesman Misako Saka stated:

“The Japanese brand has come to this decision due to financial and product distribution problems. Exports to Russia will be resumed once the situation returns to normal.”

Although not directly referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, this step of Honda at the present time also attracts more attention to the behaviours of other Japanese brands such as Yamaha, Kawasaki, and many others.

Thus, Honda did not entirely stopped its business activities in Russia, but only temporarily stopped providing more large displacement motorcycle products in this market. Previously, Harley-Davidson of the US was the first large displacement motorcycle brand to announce the suspension of exports and business operations in Russia.

Following Harley-Davidson, Polaris – another American car brand, the mother company of Indian Motorcycles – also announced the suspension of vehicle exports to Russia.

In addition, many other major names in the world have also turned their backs to Russia in the past few days, including Jaguar Land Rover, H&M, Netflix and BP.
