The volume of imported CBU cars to Vietnam has decreased sharply in both volume and value while the volume of auto parts and accessories increased slightly at the end of this year.
According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs in October 2022, businesses in Vietnam have imported a total of 14,313 complete cars with a total turnover of more than 319 million USD: down by 21.8% in quantity and 13.2% in value from the previous month.
In terms of origin, Indonesia is the market Vietnam imports with the highest volume with 6,573 units, down 29.4% compared to September; this reaches a value of more than 101 million USD, down by 25.2%.
Meanwhile, Thailand took the lead in value in October, at over 111 million USD. However, the number of CBU cars imported to Vietnam was much less than Indonesia with 5,481 units.
At the top of the average value of imported cars lies is the Japanese market at nearly 8 million USD for only 75 units, reaching more than 105,000 USD per vehicle.

Vietnam’s CBU imports
In the past 10 months, the Vietnamese market has imported a total of 128,852 CBU cars from abroad, with a total turnover of more than 2.923 billion USD, decreased by 0.5% in volume and increased by 1.7% in value over the same period last year. Businesses in Vietnam also imported auto parts and accessories worth nearly $508 million in October, up by 0.6% over the previous month. Accumulation in the first 10 months of the year reached more than 4.8 billion USD, up by 17.3% over the same period last year.
The volume of motorcycles, components, and spare parts imported to Vietnam in October was over72 million USD, up by 9.7% compared to September. This figure’s accumulation in the first 10 months of the year reached nearly 669 million USD, up by 7.3% over the same period in 2021.
