New generation Honda Winner X – Sportsbike for the mass

26 Dec 2021

The 150cc underbone from Honda is improved upon multiple details, sportier design, and added utilities. The highest version costs 50.5 million VND.

The new generation Winner X makes little difference in appearance with a redesigned mask, while the headlights and daytime lights remain the same. The front LED turning signals are more compact, integrated into the two sides instead of protruding, which are easily damaged in the event of a collision. Larger air vents increase aerodynamics. The LCD clock has been tweaked with a larger interface, making it easier for the user to observe vehicle information.

The Japanese automaker listened to customers in reducing angle of 20 degrees for the exhaust pipe. This eliminates the exhaust going directly up to others’ faces like in the old version. The new exhaust design retains the same sound quality when accelerating. The saddle and rear are slimmer, while taillights and rear turn signals bear no changes.

Winner X 2022 is still equipped with a 150-cc DOHC single-cylinder engine, liquid-cooled, with an electronic fuel injection. This powertrain gives a capacity of 15.4 HP at 9,000 rpm, and a maximum torque 13.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The model uses 6-speed gearbox with manual clutch. Compared to this, Exciter 155 VVA fitted with a 155-cc engine, which gives greater power and torque at 17.7 HP and 14.4 Nm, along with the same 6-speed gearbox.

Performance-wise, Winner X accelerates well, creating a different feeling for people who are used to the mass 125-cc models. The 6-speed gearbox also helps the ability to shift gears smoothly, but sometimes it will be redundant if going in a crowded city. To get to 6, you need a clear enough distance.

Large tires also help maintain a stable posture when changing lanes or cornering. Like the previous generation, the advantage of the Honda model is still stable long-distance travel and fuel economy. But for a young person who is looking for sportier emotions, Exciter is more flexible. ABS is another advantage on Winner X. Suddenly braking at about 45-50 km/h or when encountering a slightly slippery road, the system activates with continuous clicks and releases. This type of brake prevents the wheel from locking, thus reducing the risk of wheel slip.

In terms of utility, Honda first used the Smartkey for Winner X 2022 on all versions. Particularly for the Special and Sport versions, Honda adds 2 features, including a front USB port with a waterproof cover, and O-ring Seal Chain, helping to save maintenance time and increase the degree of accuracy. The single-channel ABS remains the same on the two most advanced versions.

The bike has dimensions of length x width x height as follows: 2,019 x 727 x 1,104 (mm), while Exciter 155 VVA has the corresponding size of 1,975 x 665 x 1,085 (mm). The distance between the two axles of Winner X is 12 mm shorter than Exciter. The short axle will help the bike move more flexibly. Both have the same seat height of 795 mm. Honda’s model weighs 122 kg, 1 kg heavier than the competition. Winner X fuel tank capacity is 4.5 liters, 0.9 liters smaller than Exciter.

Winner X 2022 is sold under 3 versions. The standard version costs 46.09 million VND (normal brake, no ABS), the Special Edition is 49.99 million VND, and the Sport Edition is 50.49 million VND. Exciter 155 VVA, instead, stretches up to 7 versions, priced from 47.3 to 52.2 million VND.

With these upgrades and changes, the new generation Honda Winner X is expected to regain the market share that Exciter has held since its launch. Exciter’s design is younger and more sophisticated than Winner X. The latter’s customers are more diverse, while Yamaha’s models are often chosen by young customers thanks to their speed and more diverse capabilities.
