Vietnam’s sales of 322,963 vehicles after 10 months of 2022 are equivalent to an increase of 52.2%, the highest in the region, according to AAF.

Vietnam’s consumption of 322,963 vehicles is the statistics of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), including sales of firms belonging to this organization and other importers. At the same time, VinFast and TC Motor are not included, which distribute Hyundai cars.

Statistics of new car sales and growth over the same period in 2021 (after 10 months of 2022):

Market Sales (units) Growth (%)
Indonesia 851.413 21,1
Thailand 750.597 25,9
Malaysia 577.902 50,7
Vietnam 322.963 52,2
Philippines 280.300 30,9

Myanmar 6.730 -14,5

AAF statistics cover 7 markets in Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore and Myanmar. Countries such as Laos, Timor Lester, and Brunei do not have data.

After the first 10 months of 2022, Indonesia is still the largest market for new cars, more than 850,000 vehicles. Following are Thailand and Malaysia. Vietnam continues to rank fourth in terms of new car consumption but has the highest buying growth, 52.2% over the same period in 2021.

With the third largest population in the region (after Indonesia and the Philippines) but the highest growth in auto consumption, Vietnam is considered a market with great potential in the coming years. According to VAMA’s statistics, by October, sales reached nearly 333,000 vehicles. If maintaining a stable growth like the past two months, sales for the first time in 8 years, since it was calculated in 2014, may exceed 400,000 vehicles.

Only Singapore and Myanmar are the two markets with negative sales growth. While Malaysia, the third largest market for new cars in the region, has a sales growth rate only after Vietnam, 50.7%.

New car consumption after 10 months of 2022 of the seven Southeast Asian markets mentioned above reached more than 2.8 million units, up 34.7% over the same period in 2021.
