In 2021, sales of motorcycle in Vietnam reached approximately 2.5 million units. This means that on average, there are 5 units sold per minute.

According to VAMM, sales in 2021 reached 2,492,372 vehicles, downed by 8.12% compared to 2020. This consumption is equivalent to nearly 7,000 vehicles consumed per day.

VAMA includes members such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, SYM, Piaggio. Honda alone sold nearly 2 million units, accounting for 79.9% market share. Honda Vision and Wave Alpha models continue to dominate the market with sales of 490,613 and 376,514, respectively.

VAMM’s sales of nearly 2.5 million units does not represent the total number of the Vietnamese motorcycle market as many manufacturers did not publish their data. Among whom are Ducati, BMW Motorrad, KTM, Triumph, Harley-Davidson, Kymco… and many other electric motorcycle manufacturers. However, these brands had low sales and modest market share compared to those in VAMM.

The declining consumption of the motorcycle market is part of the general downward trend for the vehicle business due to the impact of Covid-19. The automobile industry in Vietnam in 2021 had sales of 383,444 vehicles, a slight decrease of 3% compared to 2020. These figures are combined by VAMA, TC Motor, and VinFast.

Considering the mass motorbike segment alone, the market did not have a breakthrough product last year. Brands mainly changed looks and some small details to innovate products. Meanwhile, the large displacement motorcycle segment is more exciting when there are several new brands doing business in Vietnam such as Husqvarna (Sweden), Aprilia and Moto Guzzi (Italy). In early 2022, Yamaha, after many delays, said it would put into operation a large displacement motorbike showroom in March, separating their Town system as it is today.
