The race to import cars when the import tax was 0% in Southeast Asia has now been replaced with a tendency of switching to domestic assembly.
Skoda
According to the plan of the joint venture between TC Group and Skoda, 2 Skoda models will be assembled in Vietnam from mid-2024, including Slavia and Kushaq. By 2026, an electric vehicle called Enyaq is also scheduled to be assembled domestically.
In 2023, Skoda will sell 4 models in Vietnam including Kodiaq, Karoq, Superb, and Octavia, but all are imported from Europe.
Toyota
According to information from sales consultants, the MPV Veloz Cross and Avanza Premio couple will be assembled in Vietnam by the end of this year. Thus, Toyota will have 3 MPV models that are assembled domestically, including Innova. This information has not been confirmed by Toyota Vietnam.
Hyundai
The first batch of cars was imported from Indonesia. However, as expected by TC Group, this MPV model will be transferred to assembly from next year. This will also be applied to Creta in 2023.
Ford
The all-new Ford Territory was assembled in Vietnam right from the first sale. Vietnam is the first Southeast Asian country to produce this model.
Suzuki
According to information from General Director of Suzuki Vietnam, the Japanese brand is considering assembling a model in 2023. The specific model has not been revealed. However, with good sales, XL7 is the most likely candidate.
BMW
According to information from sales consultants, 3-Series and X3 will be the first 2 BMW models assembled in the country since distribution is carried out by THACO Auto. A seller in Hanoi said that this pair can be installed right in 2022. This information has not been confirmed by THACO Auto.
