Recently, Thaco Auto has officially introduced Kia Sorento HEV and PHEV. These are the first Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models of the new generation Kia product line-up, as well as in the 7-seater D-SUV segment.

Accordingly, Kia Sorento HEV will have two versions: 1.6L Hybrid Signature AWD and 1.6L Hybrid Premium. Prices are 1.539 billion and 1.399 billion VND, respectively.

Kia Sorento PHEV will also have two versions: 1.6 Plug-in Hybrid Signature AWD and 1.6 Plug-in Hybrid Premium AWD with prices of 1.759 billion and 1.659 billion VND, respectively.

According to the announcement, the engine on the HEV version of KIA Sorento combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter SmartStream petrol engine with a capacity of 178 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 265 Nm at 1,500 – 4,500 rpm. This engine combines with an electric motor block has a maximum capacity of 44.2 kW (60 hp) and maximum torque of 264 Nm. The engine comes with a Lithium-ion Polymer battery pack with a capacity of 1.49 kWh.

The Plug-in Hybrid versions of KIA Sorento are still a combination of the turbocharged SmartStream 1.6 petrol engine & electric motor, but the electric motor power goes up to 66.9 kW (90 hp) with maximum torque of 304 Nm for strong and durable performance. Coming with this engine cluster is a 13.8 kWh high-capacity Lithium-ion Polymer battery technology, liquid-cooled.

This powertrain produces a total capacity of 261 horsepower and maximum torque of 349 Nm. Combined with a full-time 4-wheel drive system, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 8.7 seconds and run 51 km using only the electric motor. This version has an external charging port so that it can add energy from the charging post like a pure electric vehicle (BEV).

Both versions of Sorento HEV/PHEV use 6-speed automatic transmission (6AT) and AWD (equipped on HEV & PHEV Signature and PHEV Premium).

These two new Kia models are also equipped with 3 different driving modes (Eco/Sport/Smart) and 3 different terrain modes (Snow/Mud/Sand) to bring great driving experiences to the driver.

Not only applying the first Hybrid technology in the popular D-SUV segment, Kia Sorento HEV/PHEV also offers customers a suite of ADAS active safety assistance technologies. In addition, both models have standard safety support systems such as: 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, HAC, Front & rear parking assist sensor, Tire pressure sensor, and more.

Regarding the exterior and interior of KIA Sorento Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid, they are basically similar to previous petrol versions with modern, eye-catching exterior. The cars retain their tiger-nose grille. Modern interior has many equipment such as: 12.3-inch digital dashboard, 10.25-inch central screen, 12-speaker Bose system, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control setting up, steering wheel and seats heater.

It is likely that the KIA Sorento Hybrid versions will be assembled in the Vietnamese market because confirmed information has appeared on the Vietnam Ministry of Register. As for the PHEV version, it is still unclear in what form the car will be distributed in Vietnam. In addition, Thaco has not announced plans to set up a charging station to serve the KIA Sorento Plug-in Hybrid.
