CAR SALES IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF FISCAL YEAR 2021 OF HONDA VIETNAM ARE ONLY OVER 11,000 UNITS (14/10/2020)

20 Oct 2020

2020 is a bad year for Honda Vietnam when there are many months that the number of cars sold cannot reach 2,000 even though the main force Honda CR-V tried to “burdened”.

According to the sales results announced by Honda Vietnam, in September, only 1,670 cars from this brand were delivered to users, down 42% over the same period last year. This result does not increase much compared to the previous September and if by the end of the first 6 months of fiscal year 2021 (from April to the end of September 2020), Honda Vietnam can only sell a total of 11,230 cars.

In September, Honda CR-V once again could not revive sales of Honda Vietnam. Even in the second month of official sale since the mid-life upgraded version, sales of the Honda CR-V decreased compared to the previous August, only reaching 874 vehicles. Therefore, in October, Honda Vietnam is launching an incentive to support 50% of the registration fee for users to attract customers. Coordinate with preferential support 50% registration fee from Decree 70/2020 / ND-CP, from now until the end of this year when buying Honda CR-V, users will save up to 130 million VND.

In this mid-life upgrade, the Honda CR-V stands out with a sporty exterior, a little more eye-catching, along with the Honda Sensing technology package with attractive safety features equipped on all 3 version. However, the list retail price of Honda CR-V 2020 also has an adjustment and price increase compared to before, starting from VND 998 million and the highest up to 1.118 billion VND. This is also a factor limiting users’ access to the model that used to be No. 1 in this C-size crossover segment.

However, in the first 6 months of fiscal year 2021, Honda Vietnam still had a memorable highlight, which was the explosion of Honda City in June 2020. Specifically, in the B-class sedan segment, Honda City is slowly stepping back because of the pressure of Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent and Kia Soluto, unexpectedly reaching record sales of 2,183 cars in June. It is not only the first time that Honda City has surpassed Toyota Vios in terms of sales but also the first time that the market peaked. However, in the following months, Honda City quickly drowned even though the sales consultant offered to sell with incentives up to 70 million VND.

The remaining models of Honda Vietnam have not been attracted to customers as the two main mainstays. In particular, the Honda Accord this year always is in the top 10 slowest selling car models in the whole market. The main reason is that the model has a suggested retail price of 1.319 billion VND, the highest in the D- sedan segment and somewhat more difficult to access than the rival Toyota Camry (the highest is 1.235 billion VND).
