Genuine Hyundai dealers are selling the electric car model Ioniq 5 to Vietnamese customers at “diplomatic” rates. However, only a few dealers, not all, have this program. A sales manager explains, “diplomatic” means the customer has a good relationship with the distributor or genuine dealerships’ managers.

Meanwhile, the company that imports, assembles and distributes Hyundai cars in Vietnam, Thanh Cong Group, said it has no plans to sell commercially the Ioniq 5 model.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 at dealers cost about 1.99 billion VND, some places have slightly better prices, imported CBU from Korea. A Hyundai dealer in Ho Chi Minh City said that they were waiting for the car to import for delivery to customers.

The number of Hyundai Ioniq 5 cars sold is very small. A few days ago, when salespeople made public bids on social networks, many people have now removed these posts. The fact that dealers sell and stated a “diplomatic” rate is similar to how they did with the Hyundai Palisade or Genesis GV80.

Regarding battery charging, Hyundai Ioniq 5 is equipped with a portable charger that comes with the car. Users can plug in the charger with a household power source at home, fully charging the battery after 25 hours. The battery of the car is 72.6 kWh, providing power for an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, with a capacity of 217 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Max speed is 185 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. Operational range is about 450 km after each charge under normal usage conditions.

Ioniq 5 is 4,635 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,605 mm high. This size is almost equivalent to the petrol Hyundai Tucson with parameters of 4,630 x 1,865 x 1,695 mm, respectively. Compared to VinFast VF8, Ioniq 5 is a bit smaller. The price of VF8 in Vietnam is 1,057-1,237 billion VND.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is sold “internally”, similar to how dealers used to sell the large SUV Palisade for VND 2.65 billion, or the Genesis GV80 for about VND 3.95 billion to Vietnamese customers in May 2021.

Thanh Cong launched the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car model in April 2022 in Ninh Binh. The company said, it was launched with the task of market research and measuring customer response. After that, they will synthesize and optimize versions according to the needs of Vietnamese customers. Then, proceed to build a charging station system, produce and distribute this model for the domestic market. However, the exact timeframe is unknown.

The cousin model to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the Kia EV6, introduced by Thaco at an event in late 2021, possibly officially launched in the third quarter of this year.
