The driverless VinFast VF8 electric car model running at high speed in the middle of crowded road in Vietnam caused buzzing when it was uploaded. Specifically, a clip of a driverless VinFast VF8 electric car running on high-speed roads and completely nobody sit behind the steering wheel was revealed yesterday, May 2.

In the video, two front seats are vacant, with two people in the back seat. The person in the back seat on the side was filming. The driver in the driver’s seat twice raised his hand forward, once adjusted the steering wheel to straighten, once pressed the control button on the screen. It’s unclear which road, but it could be a stretch of highway with a hard median strip in the middle.

According to the video, the car gradually increases its speed from more than 50 km/h to 71 km/h, in front of other cars, the next lane has trucks running in parallel. According to the parameters shown on the screen, it can be seen that the car is turning on ADAS – Advanced Driver Assistance System.

ADAS is classified as a level 2 self-driving feature system for cars. Specifically, the VF8 in the clip is assisted by Keeping Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. These two features make the car possible to automatically run in a fixed lane, while automatically adjusting the speed (accelerating or decelerating) to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

Although ADAS is an intelligent system, the use of these systems still requires the driver to get behind the wheel to intervene when needed. Modern cars have a detection feature when the driver takes his hands off the steering wheel for a certain time to bring out the scene.

In addition, driving without sitting behind the wheel is also completely prohibited in Vietnam. Only very few places, with the goal of testing driverless cars, will allow companies to run tests of completely driverless cars. Since 2016, several countries have been experimenting with driverless (autonomous) buses or taxis. Currently, very few places in China and the United States license driverless taxi services.
