Ford Everest and Explorer continue to sell mandatory equipment packages at 160 million VND

18 Dec 2022

While many models on the market are deeply discounted to stimulate demand, Ford Everest and Explorer are still being sold with 160-million-VND mandatory packages.

Surveying current Ford dealers, the price of Ford Everest and Explore has not shown any sign of decreasing. Worse, buyers still have to spend more than 60-160 million VND depending on version if they want to receive the car early.

Specifically, while version Ambiente is sold at listed price, the remaining version of Ford Everest Titanium FWD and RWD is sold with mandatory accessory package worth 70 million; the Ford Everest Titanium AWD raises the extra cost to 160 million.

The new generation Ford Everest has been launched since July this year with 4 versions of Titanium +, Titanium, Sport, and Ambiente with announced list prices from 1.099 – 1.452 billion VND. At the time of the launch, customers were forced to buy an additional package of up to 200 million VND to get the car early.

Similar to Ford Everest, towards the end of the year, demand for Ford Explorer increased sharply, causing this model to continue to fall into a prolonged shortage of inventory.

According to a survey by VietNamNet, the cost of the “lost” package of this large SUV is different at dealers.

In some places, car buyers have to pay an additional fee to buy accessories of VND 60-100 million, but there are places that apply the program to sell in a week for the new version of Ford Explorer a listed price with reduce equipment.

Despite being cut off equipment, Ford Vietnam has not changed the selling price of Explorer, which is currently VND 2.399 billion. In fact, this is a price that has increased by 33 million VND compared to the proposed selling price of 2.366 billion VND at the beginning of 2022.

“About 1-2 weeks ago, we still offered Ford Explorer with 150-million-VND accessory packages. But now the dealer is selling them at their original price. From this week to the end of the year, may increase significantly,” added a Ford dealer.

Despite the continuous forced upselling for months, sales of Ford Explorer and Everest are still good. In November, Ford Everest sold 1,105 vehicles, a slight decrease of 184 vehicles compared to the previous month but still in the Top 10 best-selling cars. Ford Explorer alone sold 62 vehicles, an increase of 16 vehicles compared to October.

As noted by VietNamNet, the auto market at the end of the year had many fluctuations in car prices after the state bank tightened credit. Up to now, about 20 models have been announced to be discounted.

Notably, some models that used to suffer from price inflations, such as Toyota Veloz, Hyundai SantaFe, Ford Territory … are now also launching many promotions and discounts.

The price inflation of Ford Explorer and Everest has partly caused many difficulties for buyers, despite the General Director of Ford Vietnam once said that the company will try to meet the demand of the market, implementing an online car ordering platform, helping to reduce listing price difference, and creating transparency in buying and selling.
