Ford has issued a recall affecting several vehicle models, including the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair. The recall, which was initiated in 2022, aims to address a problem related to the display of images from the vehicles’ 360 cameras. The issue will be resolved through a software upgrade to the image processing module.

In a statement released on May 18, Ford acknowledged the recall and stated that it is actively collaborating with its suppliers to identify the root cause of the problem and promptly provide a definitive solution.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has emphasized that the loss of images from a reversing camera can significantly impede a driver’s rearview visibility, thereby increasing the risk of accidents. Vehicle owners affected by this recall can expect to receive email notifications about the issue on June 26.

Furthermore, Ford has reported that in 2022, there were 17 minor collisions linked to the recalls and over 2,100 related insurance claims.

In addition to the camera display problem, Ford has received 29 complaints about screen damage occurring after the initial fix was implemented.

This latest recall follows a previous incident in August 2021 when Ford recalled 620,246 vehicles from 2020 due to another reverse camera-related issue. The NHTSA has launched an investigation to determine whether Ford conducted the recalls in a timely manner and recalled an adequate number of defective vehicles.
