Honda CR-V 2023 in the US market uses the same 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, but has a new hybrid powertrain.

After a long wait, the 5th generation Honda CR-V is finally officially launched in the US market. True to previous leaked images, the second best-selling SUV globally in 2021 possesses a tougher and more complex appearance, plus a more advanced hybrid powertrain.

Exterior design

As HR-V has increased in size significantly compared to the old generation, Honda CR-V 2023 also applies the same formula. Accordingly, the Honda CR-V 2023 has a length of 4,694 mm, a width of 1,864 mm, a height of 1,689 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Compared to the old generation, the car is 68 mm longer, 10 mm wider, and the wheelbase has increased by 40 mm. Meanwhile, compared to Honda HR-V 2023, the new generation CR-V is 126 mm longer, 24 mm wider, 68-79 mm higher (depending on version), and has a slightly longer wheelbase of 45 mm.

Not only is it bigger, Honda CR-V 2023 also applies the same exterior design style as models of the same brand such as Ridgeline and Passport TrailSport. This can be clearly seen in the front area with a bolder design than before.

At the front, Honda CR-V 2023 is equipped with a new hexagonal grille with a more vertical design and comes with a honeycomb mesh painted in black. Even the rim around the grille is painted in glossy black.

In addition, the black brace on the top of the grille also extends to the sides, causing the headlights and LED daytime running lights to be separated from each other. Compared to the old generation, the standard LED headlights of the car have a narrower design. Next is the new front bumper, which integrates a wide central air cavity and “L”-shaped air vents at the two front corners of the car.

Round to the side, the rearview mirror has been moved to the front door to increase visibility for the driver. There are 18-inch rims with standard 10-spoke design.

Behind, Honda CR-V 2023 is added vertical LED taillights, extending to the roof spoiler. Inside the taillights is a new “L” shape, reminiscent of the Mazda CX-5 2022. In addition, the car also has a new trunk door and a hidden exhaust pipe under the rear bumper.

In the two higher-end Sport and Sport Touring versions, the car will have a larger grille as well as vertical air vents on both sides of the central air cavity. The Sport version will use 18-inch Berlina Black rims, while the Sport Touring version will get 19-inch 5-spoke rims. Finally, there are 2 chrome-plated rectangular exhaust tips exclusively for these 2 versions.

Interior design

Inside this model is an interior space with a design quite similar to the new generation Honda Civic and HR-V. This is reflected in interior details such as a 3-spoke steering wheel, instrument panel, and infotainment screen located independently on the dashboard.

In the standard versions, the car will be equipped with a black-grey felt-wrapped interior, a digital clock with a 7-inch screen and a 7-inch infotainment screen. Meanwhile, the more advanced version will use a 9-inch infotainment screen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. Leather interior, 15W wireless smartphone charging and 12-speaker Bose sound system are also only high-end exclusive.

According to Honda, the CR-V 2023 is the that with the largest storage compartment in the center console in the segment. Even the rear seats of the car are more spacious than before thanks to the increased wheelbase. Behind the second row of seats is a luggage compartment with a volume of 745 liters. If the rear seats are folded down, this figure will increase to 2,166 liters.

Safety equipment of Honda CR-V 2023

Entering the new generation, Honda CR-V 2023 is significantly upgraded in terms of safety equipment. Accordingly, the car has the Honda Sensing active safety technology package with a new 90-degree wide-angle camera and 120-degree millimeter wave radar. Notable safety features of the car include blind spot detection system, traffic jam assist, low speed braking, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Engine

In the US market, Honda CR-V 2023 has 4 equipment versions, including E, EX-L, Sport, and Sport Touring and 2 engine options. The first is a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 1.5L petrol engine, producing a maximum capacity of 190 horsepower and maximum torque of 243 Nm at the same engine range of 1,700 – 5,000 rpm for the first two. This engine is mated to a CVT and front-wheel drive or AWD.

Meanwhile, 2 high-end versions use hybrid powertrain engines, including an upgraded 2.0L petrol engine and 2 electric motors. This powertrain produces a total capacity of 204 horsepower and maximum torque of 335 Nm. Particularly, the Sport Touring version will only use AWD.
