Honda Japan recently announced that it is suspending orders for the Honda Civic sedan due to the lack of semiconductor chips. Earlier, the company had to stop receiving Civic Type R piles and some versions of the HR-V for the same reason.

On their official website, Honda said: “Due to the lack of semiconductor chips, it is difficult to ensure Civic supply. To ensure that the car can be delivered to every customer who has made a deposit, we will no longer accept deposits for this model. Based on the future production situation, we will inform customers about when accept deposits again.”

Thus, customers in Japan who want to buy Honda cars at this time can only choose some names such as Step WGN e:HEV, Freed, Freed+, ZR-V, Vezel G, Vezel e:HEV X, Fit, N-One, N-Box, N-WGN and N-OF. However, many of these models have undecided delivery times or over 1 year.

In Vietnam, Honda Civic is imported completely from Thailand. It is currently not clear if this shortage can affect the supply of this model in Vietnam.

Honda Civic is selling in Vietnam with 3 versions: E, G, RS with listed prices of 730 million, 770 million, and 870 million VND, respectively.

In 2022, Honda Civic achieved sales volume of 1,925 units, the lowest in the C-class sedan segment in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the best-selling in the segment was Kia K3 with 11,404 units, followed by Mazda3 (9,812 units), Toyota Corolla Altis (3,585 units) and Hyundai Elantra (2,921 units). One of the reasons for this situation is that the supply of Honda Civic is unstable.
