Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is the next model in a series of environmentally friendly car products introduced by Hyundai Thanh Cong to Vietnamese market, after the launch of the pure electric car IONIQ5.

Santa Fe Hybrid offers the featured advantages of a hybrid vehicle that does not depend on charging stations as well as still achieves the goal of saving fuel and reducing emissions that are harmful to the environment. The vehicle uses a Full Hybrid system, also known as Parallel-Hybrid with an electric motor and internal combustion engine that can operate independently or in combination depending on operating conditions.

The battery of the electric motor can charge itself using the power supplied by the internal combustion engine. On Hyundai’s SUV, vehicle’s part that responsible for the operation is the SmartStream 1.6L Turbo gasoline engine with a capacity of 180 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 265 Nm at 1,500 – 4,500 rpm.

This engine is applied CVVD continuously variable valve technology. The included built-in battery system that has a capacity of 1.49 kWh (270V, 5.5Ah) for a capacity of up to 44.2kW, equivalent to nearly 60 horsepower. The combined power of this system helps the Santa Fe Hybrid reach a total of 230 horsepower. The included transmission is a 6-speed automatic optimized specifically for the Hybrid system.

The electric motor on the Santa Fe features IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet), which means that the magnet is located inside the rotor of the motor instead of outside like other types of motors. This design increases efficiency and reduces the energy consumption of the motor, as well as increases durability during long-term use.

This is an essential part that helps the vehicle’s regenerative braking system work. When the car moves at low speed, the engine becomes a generator. During deceleration or descent, the energy flow of the motor changes in the opposite direction, and the motor converts kinetic energy into electrical energy to recharge the battery.

There is one notable point that the high-voltage battery system and conventional 12V battery on the Santa Fe Hybrid are integrated and located under the second row of seats. This design helps maintaining luggage compartment space as other internal combustion engine Santa Fe cars, while also moving center of gravity closer to the middle of the car, improving energy efficiency.

Active Shift Control (ASC) – an exclusive technology researched and developed by Hyundai Motor, is applied on the Santa Fe Hybrid. ASC allows the electric motor to also control gear shifting to minimize gear shift lag. This not only improves the acceleration performance and fuel economy of the hybrid, but also the durability of the transmission by minimizing friction when shifting gears.

E-Handling driving supporting system is a technology that enhances body control and stability during driving. Through the electric motor, the Santa Fe has the ability to adjust torque to significantly improve handling performance in corners as well as body stability after cornering.

Santa Fe Hybrid retains the same dimensions length x width x height of 4,785 x 1,900 x 1,730 (mm) respectively and wheelbase of 2,765 mm. The car uses Full-LED lighting technology, T-Shaped daytime running lights interspersed along the light cluster. The rear of the car is still equipped with a sharp LED light cluster. The alloy wheels are aerodynamically optimized and have a size of 19-inch.

Inside the cockpit, there has a 10.25-inch central touchscreen in the middle that supports Apple Carplay, Android Auto, exclusive satellite maps for the Vietnamese market and familiar entertainment connections.

The center instrument panel is a large 12.3-inch electronic screen, showing the driving mode as well as the operation of the hybrid system including the internal combustion engine and battery system of the car. In front of the instrument cluster is where the information display on the steering glass HUD (Head Up Display) is placed. The car is equipped with many familiar convinient equipments such as independent 2-zone air conditioning system integrated with deionization, Panorama panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system, Qi wireless charging, power seat system and seat memory, steering wheel drying system, front seat drying and ventilation, steering wheel shift paddle, magnetic card key, 10-mode Ambient light, …

Hyundai’s SmartSense active safety package continues to be equipped on the Santa Fe Hybrid with key technologies including: LKA Lane Keep Assist System, Auto High Beam Adaptive Headlights (AHB), BVM & BCA Blind Spot Collision Prevention and Monitoring System, Active Parking Assist System, Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and FCA Pre-Collision Avoidance System.

HTRAC full-time all-wheel drive is an intelligent full-time all-wheel drive system that is already familiar on Hyundai models. With the Santa Fe Hybrid, this system continues to contribute to improving efficiency and driving experience.
