Jeep Grand Cherokee recalled for steering shaft fault

21 Aug 2023

The improperly assembled intermediate shaft of the steering shaft Jeeps may cause detachment from the U-joint and become potentially unsafe.

Jeep distributors in Vietnam recall 14 units of US-imported Grand Cherokee L due to faults related to the steering shaft. In particular, the improperly assembled intermediate axle of the steering shaft may lose its connection with the U-coupling.

Drivers in affected vehicles may notice crunch sounds in the steering wheel or noise when swerving. A disconnected intermediate shaft can lead to loss of steering control and cause a vehicle collision without warning.

The Grand Cherokee L vehicles are under production recall in the period between October 1st and November 30th 2022. Two dealerships of Jeap/Ram in Vietnam are both in Ho Chi Minh City. These places receive affected vehicles, inspect and fix them free of charge. The repair time for each Jeep Grand Cherokee L is about 20-60 minutes. The recall began July 20th and will last for a year.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a three-row large SUV aimed mainly at family mobility. The car is sold in two versions in Vietnam, including Limited one at 6.38 billion VND and Summit Reserved one at VND 6.688 billion.

The Grand Cherokee is only distributed in Vietnam in the L version, which is a long-wheelbase version developed based on the standard version. In the popular segment in Vietnam, Jeep Grand Cherokee L has no direct competitors. The size, price and equipment of the Jeep’s SUV reach the level of luxury models such as BMW X7 with its highest-priced version at 6,889 billion VND, which is even more expensive than the model Mercedes GLS from 5,139 billion VND.
