The first Kia Carens 2022 in Vietnam will be imported from India and have 2 different types of gasoline engines.

This February, rumors about the new generation Kia Carens small-sized MPV being sold in Vietnam began to appear. By last May, the first of these were brought to Vietnam, according to information from the General Department of Customs. These cars are all imported from India and cleared by THACO.

It is worth noting that the Kia Carens 2022 imported have 2 gasoline engine options. The first is a air-cooled, 1.5L in-line 4-cylinder engine, producing a maximum capacity of 115 horsepower and maximum torque of 144 Nm. The second is a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 1.4-liter gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 140 horsepower and 242 Nm.

The 1.5L engine will be combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, the 1.4L petrol engine comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With these options, it is likely that Kia targets both customers who buy cars for service and home use.

Previously, Kia Carens was also sold in Vietnam but later changed its name to Rondo. By the middle of last year, Kia Rondo was discontinued.

It is unclear whether Kia Carens 2022 in Vietnam will be imported CBU or locally assembled. However, Kia currently does not distribute imported cars but only locally assembled ones.

Developed on the basis of the Seltos B-class SUV platform, the new Kia Carens has a length of 4,540 mm, a width of 1,800 mm, a height of 1,700 mm, and 2,780 mm in wheelbase. Compared to Mitsubishi Xpander, the Korean representative is longer, wider, but lower. Ground clearance of Kia Carens 2022 is only 195 mm, lower than Mitsubishi Xpander.

Highlighting Carens 2022 is the bold exterior design thanks to Kia’s new Opposites United language. The car is equipped with headlights, taillights, fog lights, and modern LED daytime running lights. In addition, there are chrome details throughout its body, 16-inch alloy wheels, 2-color sports paint, and SUV-style body braces.

Inside Kia Carens 2022 is a 6-seater or 7-seater interior space. In particular, the 6-seater version is equipped with 2 business seats in the middle.

In the Indian market, this small MPV model is well equipped with a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting system, 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 8-speaker Bose sound system, air purifier and software update feature over Wifi. However, the car does not have an electronic handbrake and an automatic temporary brake hold feature.

Meanwhile, safety equipment of Kia Carens 2022 includes disc brakes on 4 wheels, 6 airbags, ABS, electronic balance system, brake assist, support for steep departure, Downhill assist, rear parking sensors, and tire pressure warning. Compared to Mitsubishi Xpander, this Korean model has some slightly better safety equipment. However, Kia Carens 2022 does not have active safety technologies like Toyota Veloz Cross.

The launch time and price of Kia Carens 2022 in Vietnam remains unknown. In India, this MPV model is priced from 899,000 – 1,699,000 Rupees (about 271 – 513 million VND). The appearance of this model promises to make the small MPV segment in Vietnam more exciting.
