The new design may re-classify the model as a SUV due to signature characteristics, instead of a minivan.

The fourth generation of Carens (called Rondo in Vietnam) launched in the world’s second most populous country. The car is no longer exactly a minivan, but employs more inspirations of SUVs. The lines and styling exude an SUV/Crossover look while retaining the same family convenience as the older generations, with a 6- or 7-seater setup.

The new Carens shares a platform with Seltos. Both are 1,800 mm wide. However, the Carens is longer at 4,540 mm, and taller at 1,700 mm. The Carens wheelbase is also class-leading at 2,780 mm. Ground clearance 195 mm is registered for the model.

Kia’s latest design language, Opposites United, is also applied to the Carens. Aside from the 16-inch rims that seem a bit small for the tall body, the new Carens looks like an SUV with LED headlights and taillights, faux aluminum underbody panels, and hard plastic body panels. The front has a distinctive look thanks to the crown jewel headlight design and large central air vent inspired by the Soul model, while the rear resembles that of Sportage.

Rondo’s dashboard design also exudes a modern look which extends to the car door. 10.25-inch central touchscreen with Kia Connect infotainment system, upgraded via OTA, is available. The car comes with 8 Bose speakers, 64-color decorative lights, SkyLight sunroof. Driving modes including Sport/Eco/Normal. Kia’s air filter system.

Rondo has 3 rows of seats. The second row of seats with a one-touch feature allows for easier getting on and off. Passengers also have folding tables, storage compartments under the seats, cold cup holders, rear air vents, 5 USB-C ports, sun blinds on the back door, and a series of other storage compartments.

All versions of Kia Rondo are equipped with the Hi-Secure safety package including 6 airbags, disc brakes, and basic electronic systems such as electrically controlled suspension, ABS and hill start assist.

Engine options include 1.5-liter petrol engine, 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine, or 1.5-liter diesel engine. Transmission consists of 6-speed manual, 7-speed dual clutch, or 6-speed automatic transmission with variable torque. All versions use Front-wheel drive.

The Kia Rondo will go on sale in India from the first quarter of 2022 and will then come to other markets around the world. Price has not been announced.
