The Italian supercar automakers informed it will only produce hybrid-electric or pure-electric cars, but still ensure feeling of excitement when driving for customers.
Recently, CEO of Lamborghini Stephan Winkelmann told German newspaper Welt that the brand has sold out of cars powered entirely by internal combustion engines. Thus, start from now, the Italian supercar automakers only produces cars using hybrid-electric or pure-electric powertrains.
According to shared information, as a first step, the company will introduce plug-in hybrid models to replace the Aventador, Huracan, and SUV model Urus. By the end of 2030, Lamborghini plans to launch the brand’s first all-electric model.
Lamborghini also reassured customers that the launch of hybrid-electric or pure-electric models would not “make the company to lose its roots”, Winkelmann stressed, noting that Lamborghini customers will still enjoy the extreme excitement of performance, while minimizing the negative impact of emissions.
For customers who have ordered gasoline-powered models before and are still waiting for delivery, the company said these models were still produced specifically for them.
Earlier this year, Winkelmann told Insider that the decision to electrify its product range was partly because emissions regulations were gradually tightening worldwide.
In fact, the global automotive industry is in the process of transition to hybrid-electric or pure-electric vehicles. This transition is not only happening in conventional cars, but also moving into the luxury car segment, as Rolls-Royce recently revealed about its first electric car called the Spectre.
Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid car, named Revuelto, expected to be introduced in 2023. The car is equipped with a V12 engine, combining three electric motors that produce more than 1,000 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds, according to information shared by Lamborghini.
