Market shares of D and E-size sedans July 2022 – VinFast Lux A2.0 dominates

15 Aug 2022

The E-size sedan of the Vietnamese automaker, for the first time, rose to the top in sales of the D and E segments in the Vietnamese market in 2022.

VinFast’s E-size sedan rose to the top in sales of low-rise cars of grade D and E in July. This is also the first time Lux A2.0 surpassed Toyota Camry in 2022 with 1,085 units delivered to customers. Sales of Lux A2.0 sold 2.2 times more than the whole D-size sedan segment combined. Compared to June, the rate of Lux A2.0 increased by more than 200% in July.

The increase in sales of VinFast Lux A2.0 is due to the Vietnamese car company launching a promotion to reduce price to 234 ~ 284 million VND and supporting 100% of the registration fee. In addition, some customers with Vinhomes voucher can simultaneously apply two to discount from 150 to 200 million VND. This brings the actual selling price below 700 million VND.

From July 15, VinFast announced to stop selling internal combustion engine cars to focus on electric cars. However, the company will continue to produce to meet for the orders placed, so sales of gasoline models will still be recorded for a few more months.

Toyota Camry sales in July reached 249 vehicles, ranked second, but compared to the previous month decreased by nearly 50%. The number of Camry cars delivered to Vietnamese customers is equal to all competitors in the same segment combined. In the first half of 2022, Camry is unbeaten in the group of low-rise cars of size D and E with 6 consecutive months of leading sales. The current Camry on the market is version 2022. The car retains the design compared to the old version but upgrades and adds features, equipment, and engines. Camry 2022 is sold under 4 versions, priced from 1.05 billion to 1.44 billion VND.

Kia K5 ranked 3rd in the segment with sales of 122 units, up by 16% compared to the previous month. K5 is also a D-size sedan that maintains sales after Toyota Camry. The new generation K5 was launched in October 2021. The car sells in 3 versions, priced from 869 million to 1.03 billion VND.

The two models with lower sales in the segment are Mazda6 and Honda Accord. July sales of Mazda6 were 87 units, a slight increase of 10% compared to June. The lowest sales in the segment belonged to Accord with 17 units sold, 4 units less than last month.

Both Mazda6 and Accord have a sporty design and eye-catching appearance, but sales were not as expected. Mazda is aimed at young customers who like flashy appearance. Meanwhile, Honda focuses on driving experience. Mazda6 sells from 849 million to 1.05 billion – the lowest in the segment. Accord has only one version, priced at 1.3 billion VND.
