According to rumors, the new Mazda6 will feature a 4-door coupe design, similar to luxury models like the Porsche Panamera.
In recent years, the Mazda6 midsize sedan has been consistently discontinued in major markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom due to low sales. This led people to believe that Mazda6 would not see a new generation. However, it seems that Mazda has decided to give this midsize sedan another chance.
According to Japan’s Bestcarweb, Mazda is currently developing the new generation Mazda6. The reason for this change in decision is not the resurgence of the midsize sedan segment but rather the success of SUV models like the CX-60.
The new engine and chassis formula applied to Mazda’s new SUV models, such as the CX-60, seems to be working. In the Japanese market, Mazda CX-60 is selling better than its counterpart CX-5 despite its higher price. This indicates that Mazda’s challenge in developing larger products is succeeding.
The Japanese brand is currently increasing its appeal in the North American market. To improve the competitiveness of the large-sized lineup, Mazda needs not only SUVs but also luxurious sedans with sleek 4-door coupe designs.
According to rumors, the new Mazda6 will feature a 4-door coupe design, similar to luxury models like the Porsche Panamera. However, Mazda will still apply its “Sculpture of Flow” Kodo design style to this midsize sedan.
In addition to the design, the new Mazda6 will also focus on its engines. The car might use various engine types, such as a 2.5L inline-4 petrol engine, a 3.3L inline-6 petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 3.3L inline-6 diesel engine. Regardless of the engine choice, the car will have rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (4WD).
There isn’t much information available about the new Mazda6 yet. It is predicted to be officially launched sometime after 2025. Besides North America, the car will be sold in various other markets, including Japan.
In Vietnam, the Mazda6 has been relatively stable in the midsize sedan segment. While it has not surpassed the Toyota Camry in terms of sales, it consistently holds the second position in the segment. In August 2023 only, 50 Mazda6 cars were sold in Vietnam, bringing the total sales for the year to 764 units. The Mazda6 is currently the most affordable midsize sedan in Vietnam, with prices ranging from 779 to 914 million VND for three different versions.
