The Japanese automaker informed that they plan to launch pure electric vehicles in 2027.
Mazda’s new CEO Masahiro Moro announced that the automaker is preparing to launch a pure electric model in 2027 for accelerating electrification and catch up with new modern technologies.
Currently, the Japanese automaker has not yet distributed its own electric model. In early 2021, Mazda only started selling the sporty multi-purpose vehicle MX-30 with a hybrid powertrain (combining gasoline and electricity).
The executive stated that Mazda will increase manufacturing pure electric models from 2028, beside promoting research and development of high-quality control components. The automaker will co-oporate with Toyota, an alliance partner, to co-develop technologies and products in the future, especially EVs.
Concurrently, Mazda’s CEO indicated that they would try to expand sales in China. The country is having a rapid shift to electric vehicles at the moment, becoming the world’s largest EV market. Notably, Mazda will be able to shorten its electrification from 2025 through a joint venture in China.
In the US, the Japanese automaker recently started manufacturing the SUV CX-50 using internal combustion engine at its factory in Alabama, USA and expects to launch a hybrid version of this model in the near future.
Last year, through anti-inflation legislation, the administration decided to reduce taxes for customers buying electric cars assembled in North America. To benefit from this policy, Mazda also plans to consider producing electric vehicle and battery acquisition in the North American market.
In addition, Mr. Moro outlined the plan to create a new company to promote the Mazda brand by holding motorsport events and promoting safe driving.
