Mercedes’ new luxury SUV comes with upgraded design, S-class-inspired interior, multiple version options, first sold in the US.
GLC 2023 launched in the U.S with two versions, GLC 300 and GLC 300 4Matic. Both are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Version 300 is rear-wheel drive, while the 300 4Matic is 4-wheel drive. The powertrain comes with a new 48V mild-hybrid technology, a second-generation electric motor. GLC 300 produces 258 horsepower, a maximum torque of 400 Nm, comes with an electric motor with a capacity of 23 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.
The German automaker installed a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission for the GLC 2023. According to test results, the GLC 2023 accelerates from 0-96 km/h in 6.2 seconds. In markets other than the US, the GLC 2023 adds 4.5-degree rear-wheel steering.
In terms of dimensions, the new GLC is 4,716 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,640 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,888 mm. Compared to the old version, the GLC 2023 is 60 mm longer, 4 mm lower and the wheelbase is 15 mm longer, while the width remains the same.
GLC 2023 is more aerodynamic than the old version. Drag coefficient is reduced from 0.31 to 0.29. The German automaker have optimized many components such as underbody panels, wheels, wheel covers, spoilers… The design of the new GLC focuses on driving feeling, comfort and quietness. It is sportier than the old one, with 18–20-inch rim options.
The interior of GLC 2023 is inspired by the new S-class. Mercedes combines the dashboard, which is a 12.3-inch screen, with an 11.9-inch central screen for the entertainment system, integrating the second generation MBUX. New designs are employed for panel and door. Standard equipment such as wireless charging, heated front seats, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay are available.
With further focus on safety technology, the German automaker offers a Driving Assistance Package. Customers are offered an active parking assistance package with a 360-degree camera system. In addition, there is Adaptive cruise control system and traffic sign recognition. Guard 360 Vehicle Protection Package, which adds full-time vehicle monitoring, is similar to LoJack and includes protection on the go.
The European market adds the option of the C43 AMG version with a 2.0-liter twin-turbo petrol engine with a capacity of 402 horsepower, and the C63 AMG version with a capacity of 500 horsepower.
In addition to the US, GLC 2023 also has versions such as, GLC200 4Matic, GLC 300e 4Matic, GLC 400e. Diesel versions consist of GLC220d 4Matic and GLC 300de 4Matic.
GLC competes with rivals such as Audi Q5, BMX X3, and Jaguar F-Pace.
