Mitsubishi Xpander Cross 2023 was officially launched in the Gaikindo Indonesia International Motor Show (GIIAS) taking place this August. After over 2 months, this 7-seater MPV has been registered for industrial design protection in Vietnam.

According to the latest notice of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, Mitsubishi had registered the design copyright of the Xpander Cross facelift from July 22, 2022 – that is, even before the car was launched in Indonesia. However, it was not until October 25, 2022, that the registration procedure was completed, and the car’s design was made public on the data of the National Office of Intellectual Property.

It is expected that Mitsubishi Xpander Cross 2023 for Vietnam will continue to be imported CBU from Indonesia. It is likely the modle will have the same design, equipment, and engine as that in Indonesia.

In the new version, this MPV has significant changes. This is clearly shown through the exterior design of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross 2023, especially the front end. Here, we will encounter a 2-level light system identical to the Mitsubishi Xpander 2022. In which, the new daytime positioning LED strip is located above, closer to the bonnet. Below is a new 3-ball LED headlight cluster with a design that Mitsubishi dubbed “Thor’s hammer”.

In the center of the front is a new larger grille, painted in black, and surrounded by a characteristic “X”-shaped chrome brace. Underneath, there is a new front bumper with a wider central air intake, square fog lights instead of round, and a lower front number plate mounting position.

Contrary to the front, the side design of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross 2023 has not changed much, except for the new 17-inch alloy wheels with a new 5-spoke design. Meanwhile, the rear area is supplemented with LED taillights; new rear bumper comes with integrated rectangular reflector and silver trim divided into 3 compartments, similar to the front bumper.

Like the new Xpander, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross 2023 has a ground clearance ranging from 220 – 225 mm, depending on version. The remaining dimensions are almost unchanged, except for a slight increase in width by 40 mm to 1,790 mm.

In the cabin, the Xpander Cross 2023 bears many similarities with Pajero Sport, shown through the same 8-inch steering wheel and dashboard. The car will also be equipped with an electronic handbrake for CVT gearbox version, intelligent automatic throttle hold system, 360-degree camera with bird’s-eye view, and a force division support system. Active Yaw Control (AYC) automatic braking works by braking wheels inside the corner for better cornering.

The engine remains a 1.5 4-cylinder in-line with code 4A91, for a capacity of 105PS and maximum torque of 141Nm. The specific launch date of Xpander Cross 2023 is unknown in Vietnam. Considering that it took Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam about 4 months from the registration of the Xpander facelift to the announcement of the model back in June, it can be expected that the Xpander Cross take just as long.

Traditionally, Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam usually launches new products at the beginning of summer. But since the company has also announced the commercial launch of the XFC Concept in fiscal year 2023, the usual time will be reserved for the small SUV. Therefore, it is possible that the Xpander Cross facelift will be released earlier, sometime after the Lunar New Year.
