Recently, the US automaker has recalled a series of new-generation Ford Everest. These cars are made in Thailand from November 24, 2021 to February 3, 2023.

Accordingly, the American automaker informed that the cause of this recall is related to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software. Engineers said that PCM might limit the alternator’s charging output under certain circumstances, leading to loss of battery power while operating the vehicle.

If this occurs, the battery level may drop to a level insufficient to start the vehicle after it is turned off. In addition, if the battery level drops below a critical threshold, the transmission may shift into park (P) when the vehicle is traveling at speed below 6 km/h, which causes a sudden stop without the brake lights illuminating as intended, creating collision risk.

The incident was discovered by Ford engineers during continuous quality monitoring and improvement processes. Ford Vietnam has authorized its dealers to check and update the software for customer vehicles’ software to completely address this issue at no cost. The estimated time required for the inspection and software update is not expected to exceed half a day.

Not only cars in Vietnam but also Ford Everest in Australia and Philippines have been recalled due to the same error. In addition, in the Australian market, Ford has also recalled the Ranger model due to a PCM software issue. The number of Ford Everest and Ranger recalled in the Australian market is 4,841 vehicles.

In the first 7 months of this year, Ford has sold 8,775 units of the Ranger model to Vietnamese customers. This number is even 4 times the combined sales of other pickup truck models.

In the meanwhile, Ford Everest has accumulated 5,262 units in sales during the first 7 months of 2023, surpassing competitors in the same segment such as Toyota Fortuner (2,185 vehicles) or Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (562 vehicles). Along with Ranger, Everest is also currently the “golden goose” for Ford in Vietnam.
