Toyota Camry – D-class sedan sales monument

Toyota Camry sales in 2022 increased by about 13% compared to the previous year, leading the D-class sedan segment, which is on the rise in Vietnam.

According to data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association VAMA, the entire D-class sedan segment in the domestic market reached 7,707 units sold in 2022, an increase of about 32% compared to the previous year. Toyota Camry continues to reach the top with number 1 in sales, accounting for 58% of the market share when handing over 4,471 vehicles to Vietnamese customers, besides the following competitors: Kia K5, Mazda 6 and Honda Accord.

Last year, Toyota sold 4,471 Camries, an increase of about 13% compared to 2021 (3,896 units), holding the throne in D-class sedan segment has been settled since 1996. This result partly helps Toyota Vietnam become car brand chose by most Vietnamese people in 2022, reaching 92,625 units.

Camry’s sales growth comes from the upgrade launched at the end of 2021, adding the all-new versions 2.0Q and 2.5HEV, in addition to the two versions 2.0G and 2.5Q. This is the first time Camry has a hybrid version, which is also the only model in the segment with an electric hybrid gasoline option.

The Camry exterior is slightly upgraded compared to the previous version, mainly in the front end. Inside the cockpit, the company upgraded the entertainment screen from 7 inches to 9 inches, equipped with smartphone connectivity, sunroof, and wireless charging. Toyota Camry 2.5 HEV holds a technological pioneer position in the segment, equipped with a hybrid engine for fuel consumption of 4.4 liters/100km of mixed roads, according to the announcement from the company.

Accordingly, this version is equipped with a 2.5, 4-cylinder engine, with a capacity of 176 hp and a towing capacity of 221 Nm. The electric motor has a capacity of 118 hp, traction power of 202 Nm. It has Stepless CVT type gearbox. This is also the car that Toyota considers the most suitable solution in the Vietnamese market, when it can self-charge, operate like a regular car, does not require a charging station system like a pure electric car while still protecting the environment.

In addition, Toyota Camry also owns the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) global chassis platform and the TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) safety package. In particular, the chassis platform on the Camry was redesigned by the Japanese company with the entire transmission and chassis system, with three main goals: flexibility, stability, and improved visibility.

On the Camry, this platform helps the car have a low center of gravity, improve driving pleasure, traction, and limit the impact of twisting and twisting the body. The suspension has also been upgraded in the direction of improving the smoothness of the occupants inside.

Safety technology is a notable upgrade on the new Camry, including a series of features from the TSS package such as: PCS pre-collision warning system, LTA lane keeping assist, LDA lane departure warning, DRCC active cruise control, AHB automatic long-distance light … In addition, the car is equipped with many driver assistance technologies such as BSM blind spot warning, RCTA rear cross-traffic warning system, TPWC tire pressure sensor and 360-degree camera.

Toyota Camry in Vietnam is currently imported as completely built-up vehicles from Thailand with 4 versions: 2.0G, 2.0Q, 2.5Q, and 2.5HEV at 1.05 billion, 1.167 billion, 1.349 billion, and 1,441 billion VND respectively (including VAT).
