New Crown SUV version is for the Japanese market, with hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine options, sold in one version.
Toyota has introduced the Crown Sport, an SUV model, in the domestic market on October 6. The Crown Sport, one of four distinct body styles unveiled by Toyota in July, embodies a design concept that seeks to harmonize power and elegance.
Sporting a dynamic appearance that resonates with its name, the Crown Sport shares design elements with the latest-generation Prius and even draws parallels with Ferrari supercars. The vehicle is outfitted with 21-inch rims paired with 235/45 tires. The dimensions measure 4,720 mm in length and 1,880 mm in width, comparable to a BMW X3.
The interior prioritizes the driver’s experience, featuring a 12.3-inch-wide screen for the entertainment system. This screen employs an asymmetrical layout, with the driver’s side in black to maintain focus on driving, while the passenger’s side accommodates a specialized display.
A noteworthy feature in the Crown Sport is Toyota’s first-ever adjustable acoustic ceiling. This innovation strategically reflects sound within the cabin, fostering an environment where occupants can communicate more effectively.
The suspension system of the Crown Sport is meticulously tuned to deliver both grounding force and damping, ensuring the driver receives precise feedback on the vehicle’s behavior. Additionally, the car boasts a rear-wheel steering system, delivering agility at low speeds and heightened stability during high-speed maneuvers, as per Toyota’s description.
Buyers can opt for the Crown Sport with a 2.5-liter hybrid engine coupled with the E-Four system or select the 2.5-liter PHEV engine in combination with a lithium-ion battery.
The vehicle is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense as standard, along with an active driving assistance suite that aids in deceleration and steering responses to the vehicle ahead or on curves. Furthermore, the Crown Sport features a traffic jam driving assistance package (Toyota Teammate Advanced Drive) and an Advanced Pack with remote control functionality.
Manufactured at Toyota’s Tsutsumi facility in Japan, the company aims to achieve a monthly sales target of 700 units in the domestic market. The Z version of the car is priced at 39,600 USD.
